When it comes to love, Martina Paillant won’t settle for someone who has a credit score below 700.
“I need a man who has his life together and can pay his bills,” the 22-year-old Canarsie, Brooklyn, resident tells The Post.
Paillant, who attends graduate school in Miami, asks potential suitors their credit scores by the fourth date. While some may call her snooty for checking someone’s FICO number before becoming Facebook official, she’s been focused on her finances since she was 16 years old and has a credit score above 800.

Forgetting the humorous side of this, there is logic to what she is saying. The problem is that most guys her age are just not all that responsible with money. And some of those that are may not have that good a credit score because they don’t have much credit history. That’s kinda why I made the crack that she is looking for an “older” man.
Women mature faster than men. At least, they used to.
Does she want to date a guy, our use him as collateral?

Based on the responses I'm wondering if a lot of guys here have really bad credit scores.

Usually when this is required before marriage [which often it is for various reasons], virginity is verified by an OB-Gyn of choice and forwarded to the man’s family ... or to him.
I think she does not want to be married to a guy who will run though their joint bank account then vanish.
If she has been focused on her own score since she was sixteen she might have a nice little nest egg saved up.
I don't either and I'm taken aback by all the gold digger comments. I wouldn't want my daughter to date some loser who can't pay his bills and whose bad credit will become her bad credit if they plan a future together. When everyone has a Credit Karma app on their phones, asking what their credit score is is a simple no-brainer.
No different really than wanting to know someone's criminal background check or how many illegitimate children they're paying child support for.

I didn’t read the article - but.... I think she is smart to not get hooked up with a low life loser that is irresponsible and doesn’t pay his bills. No credit score because he pays cash for everything would be even better.
Most men would think nothing wrong with avoiding women with high credit card debt because they over spend.
I have said for years that women could change men for the better in this country (mainly when referring to single moms, etc...) if they wouldn’t spread their legs for losers that all ready have children they can’t pay to support.
Men will rise to the occasion. Many Women’s standards are so low that men can be losers and still get a little for free.
UGH!!!! She will be lucky to get a guy above 600 credit score.
Why shallow? It seems sensible enough to me that she look for somebody who won’t be so wracked with debt that they cannot buy a decent house to raise kids in.
Funny you should mention that...
About a year ago, I took a school teacher out to dinner. She has a bachelor’s (how much longer do you think the can keep using that gender-laden term?) and a master’s. Her principal asked her to consider getting a second master’s in order to become certified in that subject. The big selling point? She could defer her student loans while in this second master’s program.
Absolutely nuts.
I don’t know how she’s able to claim accessing someone’s credit information unless she has their Written Consent and social security number - as a legitimate employer or land lord / property manager.
It is illegal to access that information otherwise.

I have a news flash for you. Most 18-22 year old women have semi shallow dating habits. Most of us get over it by 28. :-)
Most 18-95 year old men date for big boobs. :-)
