The price tag of one Texas school districts high school football stadium and events center just ballooned to $70 million, making it, reportedly, the most expensive high school football complex in the United States.

“According to our new overloads/refugees all tax payers are their slaves.”
Slaves?
I don’t think so.
The voters of the McKinney Independent School District voted for a tax increase on themselves.
Slaves, no.
Stupid, yes.
In the 60s my high got a new football field with old fashioned bleachers on both sides. Kids on detention were given buckets and detention wasn’t over until you had your bucket half filled. So you could get out of detention fairly quick if you knew the right spots. A few years later they moved the school and by then detention had a one hour limit.
The school property tax assessment doesn’t or didn’t allow for that district to budget for coming needs? What do they do with the assessments they levy?
The new Dallas Cowboys practice facility is a shared facility with the nine Frisco ISD high schools. The total cost of that facility was $1.5 billion. THAT is expensive. The city owes $60 million, and the school district owes $30 million.
Incidentally, Keller, another Texas town, recently spent 35 million building a learning resource center ... so this kina of money isn’t just for sports.
Lewisville recently spent 700 million rebuilding LHS, where I went.
Making transgender bathrooms and then changing them back again per court ruling, and then changing them again, per executive order ran costs up.
I’ll tell you straight up. SOMEBODY in that school district is getting one helluva secret kickback for this.
Follow the money for the board members
The State of Texas has a lot of good things going for it but their insane love of football is just stupid.
What about Memorial High School (Memorial at Dairy-Ashford). That’s pretty big - and it was build over 25-30 years ago.
” The district no longer has to pay the University of North Texas in Denton (an hour drive away) $100k a year to hold its commencement ceremony in an inconvenient location.”
Thanks for explaining.
I’m sure the Class of 2717 will be proud that it was their class that helped the school district break even on that stadium deal after 700 years.
Great story. Took many naps in detention back in the day :)

I think you are referring to Tully Stadium built in 66’ on Dairy Ashford for $1.2 million.
15000 seats.
As,long as,junior has a 0.00001 percent chance at a big pro football career, then it’s apparently justifiable.
This has to be Allen. They might as well play at AT&T.
“HS Stadium!!!”
Definitely not Tottenville.
Half filled with what?
Back in the 50s and 60s we had to choose between spending our college tax money on education or sports and e chose sports.
The rest is history. The beginning of the end.
Built in 1966? It looked almost brand new when I was there.
lol
Half filled with what?
I’m guessing 1/2 filled with air and the other half chicken bones.
