This was mine,The Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun (Live 1970)
Oops-sorry-I didn’t make myself clear-I meant the compliment Hendrix paid Dylan-I consider being told I’ve really lived one hell of a high compliment-thank you!
Oh, yes-one of those you can crank up and just about feel that hard beat from the inside out-love that...
Those are popular songs, and Box of Rain is poignant when one considers Phil Lesh's father passing away inspired the song. I always appreciated their live performances much more than the studio albums, not even close in my ears.
Consider Grateful Dead Live at Fillmore East on 1970-02-11
The Not Fade Away is unlike any I've ever heard. The Dark Star, Spanish Jam, Turn On Your Lovelight is a an almost one hour jam that had Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) and Duane Allman plug in to jame with the Dead, not to mention other great musicians from their bands and Love. Of course the famous shows of two and three nights later are available for listening on the UCSC Archive and epitomize the sound of 1970 ala the Grateful Dead much more, and better, than any of their studio albums.
Struth. Firth Of Fifth is a pinnacle, but sadly not 1970, so I can't link under The Rules. :D
Having heard some of Ant Phillips solo work, I was always curious what would have been had he stayed on.
If his contribution would have tended to pull toward the madrigal as his solo work did, I think it would have been to the band's ultimate detriment. It would have been the other 5 tracks of "Trespass" going forward. That's not to say this is an empirically bad thing, but let's face it, Genesis needed balls. "Musical Box" is a shockingly violent song for early 1971. Sure, I dig the ethereal construction of "Dusk"... but say Ant's presence leads the band to take the fork toward some Fairport/Canterbury instead of "Nursery Cryme." It's a completely different world and poorer for it, IMO.
This post really should have ended the thread but I’m glad it didn’t ;)

Ball of Confusion - The Temptations
