Armed men have abducted at least 16 people from La Leche, an upmarket restaurant in a popular Mexican tourist destination. "I am in Puerto Vallarta heading the investigation into the kidnapping (that) occurred this morning," said Eduardo Almaguer, the state prosecutor on his Twitter account on Monday (15 August).
Initial reports, which have not been officially confirmed, stated that a group of armed men targeted around 20 people in La Leche restaurant and took some of them away in several vehicles.
Prosecutors in the western state of Jalisco said that two SUVs with several gunmen arrived at around 1am at the restaurant which is on the city's main boulevard, which runs through the hotel district.
Five vehicles were abandoned at La Leche and it is not yet known if they belonged to the victims or their abductors, according to an AP report.

Makes more sense.
Lived in California for 30 years, and I have never been to Mexico. You need not wonder why.”
Whenever someone tells me they want to go to China, I just tell them to go to Wally World where they have everything Chinese you would want.
At the grocery store last week in Texas suburbs heard Mexican, Chinese, whatever people from India speak, a couple from Syria or Iran speak in their native language and a Black mother yelling at her children in something resembling English. Wondered for a minute if I had just walked into another country.
We used to go to Puerto Vallarta once a year for a few days and play golf. Of course it was probably twenty years ago. Wouldn’t go there for any reason whatsoever any more.
“thought Puerto Vallarta was one of the safe cities. ha ha”
Yeah, I thought Orlando was too.
Mexico may be safer than Chicago....
Or Milwaukee
Ever been to Gary Indiana?
Yipes!
I went to Acapulco in the mid 2000’s and had a blast. Before the Cartel
Wars, it’s now the most violent major city.
If you stay at a nice hotel/resort it will have a dedicated cab stand. Use them exclusively; find a driver you like/trust and demand them; and arrange for that driver to pick you up at an arranged time. (Tip well, obviously.)
The second day by chance my girlfriend and I got a ride from a cabi that was a retired Mexican marine. He was educated, spoke fluent English, stood my height (6’-3”) and roughly my build (230#). We insisted on riding with him the entire week, to the great consternation of the other cabi’s at the cab stand. He even steered us to the best meal we had there.
Had to get gas in Warren Ohio my kid said “Dad? are we in the hood”?
I said yes son, we are in the hood, stay close lets gas up and get home
Have visited in Puerto Vallarta 6 or 7 times during cruise ship stops, went shopping on public buses, roamed the beach area, stopped at bars for a drink, and never had a problem. Last visit, saw armed guards walking the cruise terminal. That creeped me out.
I used to live in a California town just north of Mexico. It was called Imperial Beach. Many decades later, I find myself still in a California town just north of Mexico -- the name now, though, is Gilroy.
I used to hang out with some nice gov workers that worked for the army dept.
Felt safe
Of all the cities I have visited on 4 continents, I felt the safest in Singapore. Drug dealers get death penalty there and vandalism gets you public flogging. There is virtually no crime there even though one third of residents are temporary foreign workers on 2 year work visa.
On one of my business trips to NYC ~ 7-8 years ago, I was scrunched onto an unwanted exit into a ghetto area. I drove like a bat out of hell to get back onto the freeway.
Hillary's taken her show on the road?

Rio is like that
Is it worth risking your life? Zika? for a Mortadella sangwich in San Paulo?
Maybe it is, maybe it aint.
I’m a very bad, lazy typist living in an auto-text world. LOL
