Two people have been killed and more remain missing after a large explosion ripped through an apartment building in a Maryland suburb of Washington.
At least 34 people, including three firefighters, have been injured. Residents are reported to have suffered burns from the blaze and fractures from jumping out of windows.
Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief Russ Hamill announced two people were killed in the blast in Silver Spring during a media conference on Thursday morning.
The explosion was also declared a 'mass casualty incident', and added the building is still in 'extremely dangerous condition'.

Gets me to thinking... Just as the discovery of the atom led to both nuclear power and the nuclear bomb, I’m wondering if some could literally produce portable “meth labs” that were actually highly powerful and incendiary bombs. i.e. create the portable meth lab with the express purpose for it to blow up, rather than actually produce drugs.

Must have been gas.
There was home in my neck of the woods that the owner blew up to collect insurance money. They opened the gas line to the fireplace and used the microwave timer for a trigger. Turned that house into toothpicks, leveled about half a block and killed some people. The home was a two story McMansion, so there was a large amount of gas and what must have been an optimum amount of oxygen.

My first thoughts were your #2 and #3. Another possibility, oxygen in use and person using open flame.

I’ve seen the remains of houses that had a gas explosion, there was very little left, other than a slab.

I was visiting someone when there was a gas explosion at house many many miles away. The house sort of shook, heard the explosion, thought it was a plane crashing. Sounded like it was close even though later we found it was miles away. All the neighbors came out and started looking around the streets and wondered if there was a terrorist attack with planes in the air

Oh how I remember carbon copies. Ugghh. Then graduating to those IBM’s that had a memory and a screen that held about five words Lol. But, I remember the embarrassment I would feel if a document was sent back because of an error. We took pride in our perfection. Don’t they care anymore?

I can’t even imagine working on legal documents during that time. It was hard enough with standard office documents. That must have been intense. You certainly remember the expectation and pride of getting it right the first time.

While in the Marine Corps, I typed Top Secret messages, in a locked closet on a typewriter. You only got issued ONE MESSAGE SHEET per message. You had to change the ribbon for each message.
In other words, DO NOT MESS UP, because you had to remove the ribbon, remove the message sheet, lock it in a briefcase, leave the closet, take those to the shredder room, then go get a NEW sheet, a NEW ribbon, and start ALL OVER!
Talk about embarrassing! You become a very careful typist - QUICKLY! Life SUCKED when I first took that job! I did realize that those "easy A" typing and keyboarding classes which I had in High School, would have better served me...had I actually paid attention!!

The explosion was also declared a 'mass casualty incident', and added the building is still in 'extremely dangerous condition'.What else did the explosion say?
