I'm going out on a limb and proclaiming the great W. C. Fields as our greatest comic Actor.

Joe E. Brown. Hilarious. Earthworm Tractor is one of the funniest movies ever made.

Mel Brooks, hands down.
Not just funny, but could also heal the nation. I think if people were forced to watch “Blazing Saddles” annually, and actually WATCH the movie, we’d have 1/100th the racial and ethnic tension we have today.
Brooks is not just a comic genius, he’s a socio-political genius.

I’d probably pick a ssilent comedian. Silent comedy is the only comedy that stays fresh to me. Jokes get old, but silent gags stay fresh. So, I’ll go with Buster Keaton.

Best comedian? Easy. Richard Pryor.
Honorable mention. Eddie Murphy, because Delirious is still as funny now as it was back then, and very un-PC.

The correct answer is Jack Benny.
There will be other opinions for second best comedian, however.

Take your pick.

The greatest (in my humble opinion) was W.C. Fields, especially for his films Man on the Flying Trapeze, and It’s a Gift. Second place goes to Bob Hope (best line: “In a dirty glass!”)

Cary Grant - he could be funny or not just serious but even threatening and you believed it.

I had forgotten about it but the hardest I have ever laughed was a scene from “Amos N Andy”. It was of the Kingfish and Andy. Andy is told by the KIngfish that it is OK to grab some hot wires in a basement. It was safe because “the water will insulate you”.

They were referred to as ‘lectures’ back then, but Mark Twain was indeed a performer....with amazing material. That would be my favorite.
