True story: in college I found a hideaway in a certain library spot to study. It was near the “show business” section. There was an autobiography of
Groucho’s near there and I took it off the shelf and read it. Then I read it again. I kept returning to it. By the end of freshman year I was totally in love. With an old, dead man. I began trying to watch his movies and tv shows etc. No one my age could cut it. I’ve kind of been in love with Groucho ever since.

Damn, sorry to hear about your difficulty playing the guitar. I would certainly miss playing mine if I couldn’t anymore.

I get the feeling Joan would have been an ardent Trump supporter.

We could have used her. Pity.

Walter Matthau.

One of my favorites was “Out to Sea”, when they ask Matthau’s character where he went to college, he responded, “Oh, it’s a little place called ‘F.U.’”

I’s kind of sad to say for me, but out of 386 responses, a whole 2 of you agreed with me about the great W. C. Fields. I love the diversity of opinions here, at F.R.

But if I had to say what was the best single comedic acting performance in a film, to me, hands down, it’s James Cagney in “One, Two, Three”.

That was Cagneys last starring role and he was just wonderful. He carried the whole movie with a rather lackluster cast.

Agreed on “What’s up, Doc?” one of my faves. Also, let’s not forget Carroll O’Connor.... his portrayal as Archie Bunker was spot on. A few others: Billy Crystal (SOAP), Dean Martin, Michael Nesmith (Elephant Parts), Dom DeLuise, Michael Keaton (Johnny Dangerously), Ed O’Neill (Al Bundy), Fred Gwynne, Jackie Mason, Jim Backus, Dabney Coleman, Jeffry Jones (Ferris Bueller), Slim Pickens, and Don Harron (Hee Haw)....

I had watched a W.C. Fields and Mae West movie “ Every day is a holiday”, there were some pretty funny lines from both of them. She may have been provocative for her time but I was a teen in the late sixties and early seventies so when when I reinacted her it was funny.

I’m surprised that this thread could get to almost four hundred posts without a mention of Ernie Kovacs. Now there was one funny guy who died way too soon.
