Samsung Gear came to market in 2013 and it offered a camera and speaker built right into its one and only band and clasp design. After Apple introduced the Apple Watch with multiple band options and its quick and easy install mechanism for changing the bands, Samsung set out to copy that idea as quickly as they possibly could. In a patent application that surfaced today at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office titled "Wearable Device," they discuss their new "exchangeable" strap mechanisms. What struck me was that a great number of their form factor patent figures were actually Apple Watch designs showing that indeed they set out to copy Apple's design – even if they changed the method enough not to get sued. But it's clear that the Samsung engineers were either inspired by Apple's ingenuity or that their bosses handed them pictures of what they wanted their engineers to copy. It's undeniable as you'll see in the 12 patent figures presented below.

What is there to ‘patent’ there?
The patent office is screwed up beyond belief
It has long since become a stupid bureaucracy that stifles innovation.
I was in a meeting once with the companies resident patent expert - everything someone suggested prompted a response that “we need to patent that” ...
1) I think if you invent something new, you should be able to file the plans and get a time stamp - who ever is first wins.
2) If you submit a duplicate to something else then it is up to the first person to enforce his patent.
But a patent ‘search’ to see if someone invented the same thing is silly. There are millions of ideas to search for, and new ideas never get past the COST of this stupid process.
The two simple rules above would simplify everything.

You on a galaxy S7? Their camera is pretty good, especially in low light.
Almost all cameras now are good in good light, so the low light capabilities of the Galaxy S7 are pretty standout.

What is there to patent there?
Have you actually seen an Apple Watch? Seriously, no insult intended. If you have ever gone through the masochistic effort of swapping out a band on a conventional watch, you know those satanic springs of which I speak. Those things that force you to scratch your beloved case, make you bleed, jump out of the band and onto the floor.
Now, ask any Apple rep to demonstrate the ease of swapping out an Apple Watch band. Push a button, slide out a metal insert. Slide the replacement insert into the watch until you hear a “click”. Takes seconds. Now, suddenly you can have different colored watch bands for “fashion” just as a gentleman may have different dress belts. Sport, Dress, casual. If that’s what you want - it’s available.
Look at the interface, the Digital Crown that NO ONE ELSE has- well, had.
That’s just a starter. Spend 5 minutes of your life in an Apple Store and see what the fuss is all about. Looking is free.
I’m sure Apple will survive especially when they “cribb” a bunch of other people’s ideas when they release their round version of the Apple watch.
It isnt like these things are really going anywhere anyway. But I have to admit after seeing both company’s watches for the first time at Best Buy last week, I can’t see how anyone wasted money on that Apple version at all.
The Koreans are so sure of themselves getting away with copying Apple that they don't even copy the patent drawings with slight changes, they simply use Apple patent drawings. Incredible! And the nerve of calling themselves innovative when Samsung copies Apple. Buy U.S.A.!

Bracelets have been around since Roman times, 2000 yrs.
No, it's not the bracelet. It's the way they connect to the watch. That was truly innovative. No one had ever come up with anything like it before Apple invented it.
Apparently you have never bothered to look at an Apple Watch. I would encourage looking, perhaps waste 15 minutes of an Apple associates time having him explain the watch to you. They are paid hourly, not on commission so you won’t hurt him, and Apple can afford it.
This is what we call “innovation”.
From re-thinking how a basic buckle on a watch band works, to how bands can attach to a watch, to redesigning the metal clasp, to using magnets embedded in a steel mesh - it’s totally unlike anything before.
To compare it to a Roman bracelet is as ignorant as comparing the Model A to a Roman Chariot. It makes you look like a fool. You are doing yourself a disservice. Looks are 100% free.

PUH-LEASE that attachment method has been around for ages , sliding something into an opening that is larger than the exit slot .. WOO-HOO that’s never been thought of before. It may not have been used on a wrist-phone before but that doesn’t make it special. It sort of reminds me of middle ages door locks which used wooden dowels...
When Chrysler first used “super velcro” to attach vehicle interior components 35+ years ago did they patent it? NO ,, Why ? because it was an obvious use of the product. Apples “tab a” into “slot b” is just as silly a thing to patent... I bet I could patent a used kleenex by these standards.
BTW .. does this watch have the ability to tell time for more than a day or does it still require user intervention to charge?
Neidermeyer, PUH-LEASE, show us ANY EXCHANGEABLE WATCH STRAP SYSTEM that uses such a connection. Any. Any at all.
You are an idiot of you think that a DOOR lock is the standard for prior art on a Watch strap connection to the watch. The watch industry was struck dumb by the system Apple came up with and were shocked they had not, in over 200 years of making watches, come up with such an elegant solution. That is the quintessential definition of innovation and patentable invention. YOU JUST CAN'T SEE THE SIMPLE FACT THROUGH YOUR DELUSIONAL APPLE HATRED!
Show us this system ANYWHERE. On anything. It's simplicity for multiple materials whether using hardware or just interchangeable with a molded strap is also unique. And Samsung is trying to steal the invention. Do you even know that there are PORTS beneath the connection for future expansion that allows future STRAPs to have electronics in them that can connect to the watch? I thought not. It is truly innovative. . . And you can do nothing but throw rocks and slurs.
As for the battery capacity of the Apple Watch, mine has lasted up to 48 hours between charges, but I usually don't push it. Every night when I take the watch off, I put it on a stand where it acts as a clock and charges it while I sleep. I am not using it while I sleep so what do I care. . . But if I wake up, I can see it and know the time at a touch. Nothing to plug in at all. It charges by magnetic field impedance. Taking the watch off and putting it down I would not call "user intervention." It's far less user intervention than winding my $3000 Stürhrling I used to wear before getting my Apple Watch, which had far less functionality for me.

This is like someone who upon hearing about an MRI or CAT scan machine, starts bad-mouthing the technology saying “Oh, we have had photographs for over a century”. You sound like an idiot.
Worse, you are completely unwilling to even bother to LOOK at your local mall, to walk into an Apple store and waste some Apple Associate’s time and ask some very basic questions. The Apple Associate is paid by the hour, not upon commission - you won’t hurt his income; and Apple can afford it. This way, you can see what incredable - SIMPLE - non-obvious, innnovations Apple has made to the humble watch; and you will be like everyone else who took the time to investigate. You will say “Holy Sh*t, why didn’t someone bother to re-think this approach over 50 years ago”.
This way - you won’t look like a pathetic moron - because it’s just embarassing. In case you didn’t know; a CAT scan (Computerized Axial Tomography) machine and an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Scan machine are not the same as a photograph - just thought you ought to know that.
Otherwise, my comparison just wouldn’t make any sense at all to you.

It's silly, money grubbing nerdism. A solution in search of a problem. Then when watch sales tank you throw a foam party. The Chinese/Asians tend to be gadget freaks and they bought most of these Apple clunkers.
