Secretary of State John Kerry said in Vienna on Friday that air conditioners and refrigerators are as big of a threat to life as the threat of terrorism posed by groups like the Islamic State.
The Washington Examiner reported that Kerry was in Vienna to amend the 1987 Montreal Protocol that would phase out hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, from basic household and commercial appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and inhalers.
As we were working together on the challenge of [ISIS] and terrorism, Kerry said. Its hard for some people to grasp it, but what weyouare doing here right now is of equal importance because it has the ability to literally save life on the planet itself.
Kerry said that most of the substances banned in the Montreal Protocol have increased the use of HFCs and claimed that the coolant was thousands of times more potent than CO2. He added that the increase of HFCs has lead to the trend of global climate change. The use of hydrofluorocarbons is unfortunately growing, Kerry said. Already, the HFCs use in refrigerators, air conditioners, and other items are emitting an entire gigaton of carbon dioxide-equivalent pollution into the atmosphere annually. Now, if that sounds like a lot, my friends, its because it is. Its the equivalent to emissions from nearly 300 coal-fired power plants every single year.

You can’t take away my air conditioning...NO WAY!
Steaming pant load and the DNC: go together like a horse and carriage.
I trust he’s leading by example and giving up using both refrigerators AND air conditioners.
I wasn’t being sarcastic—I’m dead serious.
Make these bungholes lead by example.
Lurch is a moron and very dangerous to our safety and security. Having our future in his hands is a scary thought.
Maybe poor dimwitted Kerry should spend some of his money learning SCIENCE instead of trying to destroy the world with nonsense!
He won’t get rid of the A.C. on his colossal private key I bet
I wonder how many times the iceman comes to his giant mansions to fill the iceboxes since he has no refrigerators...
He’s in Europe? How did he get there? Did he swim or row a tiny boat there?
Surely he didn’t use any “icky” fossil fuels!
I wonder when he will call for a ban on dihydrogen monoxide?
Someone needs to get a version of this to Donald Trump for him to enact on the EPA, NASA, and a couple of other agencies: together with forbidding any government-funded travel by anyone in any of those agencies, as long as there is any sign or claim of global warming by any government agency.
And DOWN to 101 here in SD today, from highs ranging from 104 to 108 this week. Maybe I should fear mine...and the freezers...die from overwork.
It's like you were reading my mind...
