Is it racist then when reporting a crime and the race is not mentioned hinting (darkly) that the perpetrator was black?

Newspaper apologizes for publishing the truth instead of a lie. I can’t say that I’m surprised.

Who would have known? Is Memphis one of those places where truth is unwelcome?

Just imagine what the reporting would have been like if the races were reversed. Tells you everything you need to know about the communist media.

Of course if it was a white person who stated he was targeting blacks and they didn’t report it, they would be up i arms about that as well.

It is not racist to point out a black murderer targeted victims because they are white.

Commercial Appeal is in survival mode. Memphis is a black city so when these accidental acts journalism happen, if no ‘deep heartfelt’ apology is issued their writers could be in danger or there could be a rash of traffic, zoning and other citations suddenly start being issued.
They are walking a very fine line.

Sounds about right. I wrote for a college paper during the Iranian crisis and the jerks tried burning down the office then stole the typeset. The teacher was happy and yet refused to publish my story on the spies, the religious fanatics and the threats pre-fire. That was the end of elective journalism for me.

“Especially in a city with a 65% African-American population.” Yeah...of which perhaps 20% can actually read your paper.
