Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Give it time....
If there is a Cat there will be Kittens. Kittens just happen. :)
Yes. Yes, they do. Kittens happen quite often when folks least expect it.
I lived next to a woman who told me her cat was “just fat.” Two days later, the “fat kitteh” had five kittens. Hahaha!
Will post evidence later....:D
Afternoon ,Face. :)
Just got back from the day’s activities. :)
It hasn’t gone away.
That’s a stunner of a picture ‘Face. !
:)
Thanks, Moosie! I will tell my daughter you said so! :o])
We are not that naive..
We knew that when our resident feral female was loosing her svelte figure that there was a natural biological function going on. We unfortunately could not get her into a carrier for transport to the rework-the-plumbing-place. She was OK with being petted. scratched on the head, and fed but any attempt to pick her up was greeted with hissy-claw-and bitey-fang. And as soon as she was safely back on the ground, she wanted petted again...
Of course if Tomas Tomcat does bring home a girlfriend we will make every attempt to befriend her and convince her of the need to visit the local cat planned parenthood place..
There do appear to be some thunderous events descending upon Metropolis.
And, no, I’m not talking about a baked-beans cook-off.
She evidently thought I was the stupid one. I saw her cat climbing up her screen door, trying to tell her staff to let her in, and when I saw the woman next day, I asked, “When is your cat due to deliver?” “Oh! (laugh) She’s not pregnant, she’s just fat.”
Three days later, the woman came to me to apologize. I thanked her. But it happens when you let your cats out and don’t bother with birth control for them.
What you have rumbled through here a bout an hour ago with blusterys and thunderousness and downpours.
Now the solar orb is evaporating the precipitation creating oppressive humidity levels.
And if you take a gander (or even just a goosling) at the radar you will see an even bigger patch that stretches from Watertown, NY to State College, PA bearing down from out Scranton way. And moving this direction at a pretty good clip. The prognosticator is estimating arrival at my location in 65 minutes..
As to the bean event, I thought that was localized around the Wells Fargo Center in Philly...
By the time I went out to the ramada (0900) we were still getting the smoke from the Commiefornia wild fires, but besides the smoke, it was 86 degrees. However, the humidity was 71% and my weatherfoam said the “feels like” temp was 93.
Yah. Like that.
One of the peeps who lives one building away said her weather thingy said it was 96. At the time, we were sitting 3’ across the table from each other, so go figure!
And I’m gone for the night!
Have a good night!
Evening, gents. I’ve cleaned a few things and cooked a few things and washed a few things. We’re going to the water park after supper, and I’ll drift peaceably in very warm water.
For the most part, today, I’ve been providing my own water to drift peaceably in.
They never leave the doorway to Canada open when we could use it.
And the second wave of thunderousness has descended..
The ‘Warning. Warning. You’re all gonna die’ announcement says “Heavy rain and a thunderstorm for at least 120 min.”
Unfortunately the blusteries forced the closure of windward windows so as to prevent the inadvertent watering of such things as furniture, rugs, and hardwood floors (polyurethane varnish only holds up so long..)
Thus encouraging interior breezeless discomfort.
Fortunately we have fanthings. Most of them actually work.
Drifting sounds like a great idea, G’night. :)
Don’t drift with tumbleweeds. It’s not as much fun as it sounds.
That’s a very nice bit of photography, you and your daughter all aglow with a bit of the soft lensing. It’s a great picture.
