Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Better?
darn nice sketch of a VW Beetle....
Thanks! I saw it someplace, and since my son restores VW’s, I thought it would be cute to do it.
It wasn’t easy (for me) to figure out, but I got it after four tries.
:o]
Re: #5897
I just sent a private message to the gal on FB who was going to get the chair, and gave her my address and phone number, asking about what time she thought she could get it.
She snapped back with: “Did you think I was going to get it with my four boys?” (She home schools.) Then: “My brother got called in to work so he can’t help me.”
My response: Umm...I didn’t know what arrangements you made, but I’m sorry to inconvenience you. I’ll just put it up on freecycle.org.
Just. Wow.
LOL!
On the upside, the library trip is accomplished. On the downside, what I thought were yellow lentils turned out to be yellow split peas. I’ll give the annoying Offspring pumpkin soup with barley, instead, and some vegetables.
Oh, my, yes. That.
Oh dear. Next time I have more money for groceries, I will look for pumpkin soup. Or squash soup. Or maybe just buy a squash. That sounds good.
This has been a strange day for sure.
The best part was being with the peeps, after being on here. The rest of the day has yet to unfold and surprise me.
We have smoke all over from the fires out west.
I hate when CA has fires, as we get the smoke for days. I keep surgical masks handy just in case. I will have to remember to take some with me when I go to AR.
And now, kiddoes, I think I’m heading for the barn. My ex-aide decided she would come over this morning, just when I was expecting Cox repair and Rosa for the chair, so I told her “No.” She just seems to insist that I have nothing better to do all day that stop what I’m doing and let her come over.
She sent texts and called, and I just could not answer her. I will not allow anyone to change my plans at the last minute, just to accommodate them. Come when you’re supposed to or stay home. Reschedule, if you have to, but not at the last minute for the next minute.
Dang that irritated me.
The bottom is dropping out of the barometer, the storm glass crystals are creeping up to the half-way mark, my right calf is telling me the weather is going to be ugly, and I’m going to bed to warm up and put some heat on my back.
I hope you have a good night! I have a meeting at 7:30. DP’s going to yoga.

Today's kitten is much more photogenic than we are.
Such lovely eyes.

Food for thought.

Thank her stylist ...
All of nature wants to kill us, but all of nature is not this cute.
Cool!
I like to have enough gas in the car so if we should have to take off for the ER we don't have to stop for gas along the way.
So I am a bit paranoid. Doesn't mean it is out of the realm of possibility.
If I was a guy I would wear belt, suspenders and a safety pin, just in case.
