New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Sure rub it in.

Las Vegas should secede or be thrown out of the state.

Actually, it merely sounds negative.

If I live to be 100, I will never, ever understand women.

Is she, perchance, a democrat?

Oh, Fluffy! You have to stay here, don’t you? But yes. Las Vegas should secede, but what can you expect from a sanctuary city?

Probably. But a stalker, for sure, and vindictive, most assuredly.

I just had Zeke put up a motion detector light, just in case she wants to do some thing to my truck.

New tagline. Better?

Maybe:

No federal funds for “sanctuary” cities that defy federal law.

?

Best wishes for your safety, Zeke’s, and your truck’s!

My hands and feet are swollen today. Too much sodium in the Thai dinner, maybe. I took my shoes off during the concert last night, and I could barely get them back on when we were ready to go. I’d have looked like a fool walking four blocks to the truck in my socks. Not to mention ruining my socks.

Thanks

Although I like the If/Then format better.

Liberals have way too much trouble seeing the relationship between their actions and the consequences.

Maybe “Cities that defy Federal law should lose Federal funds.” or “If cities defy Federal law, they should lose Federal funds.”

Maybe:

‘If cities defy Federal law, then they lose Federal funds.’

I don’t like the ‘should’. Not imperative enough. Maybe ‘shall’ or ‘will’?

And I want to explicitly target sanctuary cities

Then how about: “If sanctuary cities defy Federal law, then they will lose Federal funds.”

What I don’t like about this is (a) that “sanctuary cities” and “defy Federal law” is redundant; and (b) that “will lose Federal funds” is a predictive statement about a future that is actually unknown. It is entirely possible that the status of sanctuary cities will continue as-is for a considerable length of time.

I’m sorry for your swelling extremities. It’s always a bother.

I’ve finally gotten my feet swelling under control. It bothered me for quite a while, until I realized that using the nebulizer every day, several times a day, with the medications prescribed, would eliminate the water weight. Whodathunkit?
