Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

LOL! Excellent!
My next door neighbor had an all-red 1963 Chevy 409. It was REAL fine : )
What a little Gem !
I see may hours of therapeutic chrome polishing ahead. :)
A 5.7 litre engine , that must really move. (!)
Seh’ll save every thin dime she gets once she begins getting any. Good for her it’s not a #1 car, or she’d be looking at a VERY long row to hoe.
GotG was OK, but Zoe Saldana in green isn’t the draw she once was.
Actually, she won’t get me to watch Star Trek Beyond, either.
But there was a time when I’d watch that girl chewing french fries just because.
REAL fine, and REAL rare these days.
Nicely restored, a genuine from-the-factory 409 will set ya back at or near $50k.
Yes. It’s true. But I have to look on the bright side of life, here; I now have a use for my used toothbrush.
LOL!
The 5.7 gets it going nicely, but it’s a fairly heavy car, so you don’t get the kick in the backside you might expect. Base curb weight for this model is over 3700lbs; nearly 1700kg.
The original 250hp (190kW) 327cid V-8 with the two-speed Powerglide slushbox could take the car up to nearly 120mph, and run a 1/4-mile in the 17-second range. Now, with nearly 100 extra horses, and the three-speed automatic — I’ve no real idea, but I’m guessing it MIGHT have the gusto to run in the 15’s.
Hawkeye doesn’t look as if he wants a buddy.
Now, all that said, this handy little ET calculator over here says otherwise.

Citing 3700lbs curb weight and 350 flywheel horsepower puts the car through the traps in 13.4sec at 112mph. Theoretically, at least. Drop it to 330hp and it’s across the line in 13.7sec at 110mph.
I don’t plan to wind it up like that very much, tho. We didn’t buy the car for competition; just good fun.
Took it out a couple weeks ago on Friday to the local diner to rub elbows with other local hot rod & custom owners. Good bunch of folks driving a nice selection of iron.
They an snooze for an hour at-a-time just 2 feet apart, and if they’ve each got someone holding and soothing them, they can get even closer than that, but that’s about as amicable as it gets.
BOTH kittehs are all teddy bear snuggly each on their own. But put the two of them together...
“Hypergolic” is a term that comes to mind. LOL!
Gorgeous! (Both of them LOL!)
Coming in April or so.
Jake and Shannon don’t care for one another very much.
We brought home a mouse from church: they found it in the bathroom. It’s very small, but Sally is going to try to raise it. I just heated a blanket in the dryer for it.
Who cares about the green and blue chicks. I like watching Chris Pratt. :)
Just put my own cars figures through that calculator and it was within a second.
Better to enjoy the beauty of the car than attempt to get a course at Top Gun. :)
Boom
