Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another!
Back from WW. Miss Kitten had a 100-ft. tree come down in her back yard over the weekend, but it missed the house. Heather was back; Lynn was back; Gaile told us all about a bus trip to Cape Cod.
Next we’re going to the library.
What is its nature and purpose? Is it like a tenants’ organization?
Yes, it is for the tenants, trying to get some things that HUD and/or SNRHA will not or can not provide: Stacking washer/dryer combos, new furniture for the community room, money for excursions, new pool table, etc. The list could be endless, but these people need things to make them feel less like cast-offs and more like people of worth.
We will also need a computer and printer, plus office supplies, a fund for parties, etc.
Zeke wants to contact some local businesses and see what they want to help with. I think it’s a good idea, but we need to make the residents feel like they are part of the selection process.
Our first community meeting is Monday morning, and hopefully, we will have a lot of ideas for things to ask for when its over with.
What is your apartment complex called? I think you mentioned it once, but I forgot!
I’ll ask for suggestions from the creative youth!
The official name is Espinoza Terrace. Most locals refer to it as “Espinoza.”
Needless to say, because of the day’s doings, I wasn’t able to go to Albertson’s and check on the Pilsner there. *sigh*
Meetings at 0530 should be banned.
But I DID get the dishes done! :o])
Maybe tomorrow...
Now I need to go take a pill and sit at the ramada and see if anyone shows up. Charlie may have taken the little bus to the stores, but I won’t know until he doesn’t show up.
I am sure I had one of those once. Since I’d studied the signs of a heart attack I knew I didn’t have some key ones and just suffered through some INTENSE pain until the next morning when I could get some antacid.
I would try something like, "Hillary, PLEASE!!!"
So, here I am scrolling down to see what MOOK got post 4567 without noticing, and it was me.
(doh!)
LoL.....
SelfieLOL!
Hey, if you can’t LOLselfie who can you LOL?
Exactly. :)
I could use that today.
I would definitely NOT include the word Tea, Party, Conservative or any other IRS trigger words..
‘Old Fogies Association’ though shouldn’t raise any flags.. ;-)
Jake is ignoring me because this pleasant fall weather is bringing out lots of exciting prey.
The moment I open the window George is there to read the breezes. We mowed the lawn today and that brought up lots of new scents to delight him.
“Birds! I kill those!”
At the library today, I found a children’s picture book about Ada Byron Lovelace. I’m looking forward to reading it to Kathleen. I hope it has horses in it!
Kind of a straight line, isn't it?
It will probably have Charles Babbage's computer in it. Today is Ada Lovelace Day.
If I ever collect a bunch of people for a time-travel epic, I think she should be included. Brilliant woman.
