New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Smith’s and Albertson’s have endcaps that have assorted imported beers, and folded six-pack cartons, for $8.99, mix or match. Harris-Teeter might have one, too, since it’s a Kroger store.

Jim, one of the Perpetually Tipsy residents was in the kitchen, getting ready to cook breakfast, when I went in to open up. Obviously, Zeke let him in. The more Jim drinks, the more he stutters, and this morning it was bad!

I got back in time for my pill alarm to sound. So I had them all and had to eat something.

I don’t like “early cool” unless it’s followed in a few hours by “later heat.”

But football is always good!

Maybe if you did the puzzle first Kathleen would take an unexpected nap. NOT! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist that — it was just too inviting!)

Yes, HT has a make-your-own 6-pack function. We get some for Bill and Tom sometimes.

I think it’s an excellent idea. This pilsner that I got was actually brewed in Berkeley, CA, “from an old Austrian Recipe,” but it’s the best I’ve found in a while.

For some reason, my back is hurting again this morning, as if I had been standing for a long time again. I will have to add half a pill to the dose when I take it in a couple of hours. If I can last that long. I always have “breakthrough” pain. When it wears off, it is OFF. No dwindling for me. :o0

You’re welcome. A person ought to have some beer if they like it: it’s nutritious!

Have returned from the mission impossible.
Oxford ringroad was incredibly quiet.

I found an awesome recipe for Salisbury Steak done in the crockpot, and it was so tasty-looking that I shared it on FB. T-c, if you want the recipe, I’ll copy it and send it to you, snail mail.

It looks luscious! Now I have to buy ground beef and mushrooms...and an onion. But I’ll do that later. Winter will be long, and if this is as good and easy as I think, I will make it more than once. :o])

Most things are quiet here, on Sundays. Especially early in the morning. When I was a kid, the only traffic on Sunday was to church and to “Mom’s house” for a big dinner.

It was so quiet, and peaceful. Not any more, though.

Sounds nice!

Father Ho Lung, founder of the Missionaries of the Poor, was at Mass today. He's a very tall, Chinese man in his 80s.

By tomorrow, it’s supposed to be approaching cold.

I see in the prognostication for Monday night-Tuesday morning they are calling for a low of 31.. If so my tomatoes are done. And I have red raspberries still producing - don't know if they can take a quick frost.

Right now we have a cloudy 57 degrees. They were saying rain, but it has skirted east of us. I note though that the rains from former hurricane whats-his-name are possibly going to affect the American League Division Series game in Boston that is scheduled to start in about two hours. (Are the Yankee fans rooting for Cleveland because of their great love for Red Sox?)

Meanwhile, the Brady bunch seems to be massacring the other Cleveland team 23-7 and it's not even halftime..

And just now the sun has made a cameo appearance. For it to have a starring role the gray clouds need to move off the stage.

Wow. What part of China is Father Ho Lung from? I bet he is interesting to talk with.

Oh noes! Not again! You were worried about your tomatoes last year, too, when the Globull Warming got a little chilly. And the red raspberries, too? *gasp*

My favorite jam (one of them) is red raspberry. The other favorite is apricot. And the third favorite is real orange marmalade. Of course, lemon curd is in there, somewhere...

I’m watching PBS because I cannot tolerate another political ad.

Have you got any sheeting you can put over the Raspberries?
Or are we talking a plot the size of Texas ? :)

Political advertisements are all cobblers anyway, everyone has already made up their minds who they are voting for.
I’m definitely voting for Theresa in the next election, how’s that for forward planning.
