New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Yes, I hope so, too!

I have to go to Walmart today. Again.

Second husband. The first husband was at sea for most of our marriage.

Yes, the Yankees occupy Mudville this year. The Amazin’s weren’t actually amazin’, hanging on by the skin of their teeth.

I’ll watch from the comfort of my internet link and be thankful I don’t have to fly out of La Guardia during any of the festivities.

And I’ll wish MLB would get wise and shorten their season so they’re not so mixed in with the NFL.

My beeber says we’ll hit 74 today. If the sun doesn’t come out it may be a struggle. Currenly 61.

I’m done with the laundry, including hanging it up, though I didn’t wake up until a little after 0400. I guess I needed the sleep. I haven’t been feeling all that well the last few days.

I was going to go to Walmart when I got done with the laundry, then come back and open up, but I realized that I would be stretching it somewhat to try the Walmart trip with only 30 minutes to when I was to open the doors. So I will wait until tomorrow. I’m not going to stretch anything today.

I’m just too tired. CFIDS relapse. Unless it’s West Nile. But they are so similar in symptoms that only a blood test will tell.

I washed the bath mat from the hall bathroom and put it out in the yard to drip. It would take all day in the dryer.

My bathtub mat keeps losing little suction cups every time I lift it to hang it to dry. I’ll have to buy a new one, soon. The bath mats are easier, as they are terry cloth and reversible. I wish I had had some of those earlier in my life!

Be careful. Somtimes those suction cups aren’t as benign as they first appear.

Just make sure your next bath mat is dead before you bring it home. That’s all I’m sayin’.

I’m not saying why I give this warning.

What’s this?

UK government to crackdown on restaurants serving oversized, sugary desserts

Is there nowhere left where the government doesn’t think it knows how to run my life better than I do?

Point to ponder..

Just wish that the peoples who author these things would learn proper English, spelling, and punctuation. So many 'good' ones have one or more easily spotted errors. They did get 'they're' correct, so maybe their keyboard doesn't have a "?" key...
