New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Stone cold killer who is trying to tell you to quit buying cat food.

That’s my vote and I’m stickin’ to it! ;o]

And my day is nearly gone. Dang. I got nothing done except to go to Walmart and bring the water into the house.

*sheesh*

It’s been a long time since I had a day where nothing serious got done. I mean, I always have time to research things and make an entry in my journal and none of that happened today.

I have days where I don’t do much but survive, too.

It’s my way of rewarding myself for not droping a couple hundred on some piece of tech I never knew I wanted until I walked in.

If we send you to a concert will it help with the disconcerting?

Ah. When I decide I shouldn’t spend a lot of money for something I’d like to have, I buy a bottle of nail polish instead. Usually costs about $2.50.

Jake just killed a rabbit

Great! Now I have "The Ride of the Valkyries" running around in my head.

Did he use his spear and magic helmet?

or mess with the wrong bunny.

Shades of Monty Python.

TIM: Well, that's no ordinary rabbit. That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on.

ROBIN: You tit! I soiled my armor I was so scared!

Tim: Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide.. It's a killer!

Maybe he’s trying to tell me that I can stop buying cat food.

Or start buying fresh bunny parts instead of the canned stuff.

Purina cat chow is not made from cats. Supposed to be for catz.

Purina Monkey Chow 5045 is the Cap'n Crunch of that segment of the animal kingdom.

Even in NYC you can get a king sized Payday at Best Buy for $1.99 plus tax.

I can get ‘em for under $1.50 other places.

I’ve never thought to shop for candy at Best Buy.

The mean folks at Best Buy marketing put the candy next to the check-out counter.

Otherwise I wouldn’t either.

Sometimes I grab a soda instead of a candy bar.

Do you get the nail polish at Best Buy?

For those who are wondering, Best Buy is a walk-in store in NYC. There’s no parking lot. I’ve seen people carrying flat-screened TVs out to the curb and hailing a cab. If they live close enough they just walk the thing home.

The Best Buy I go to is immediately next to a Petco, which is immediately next to a Staples. Going around the corner is a drug store.

I tell ya’ it’s a whole different way of looking at shopping.

Don’t get me started about going to Home Depot.

Got any 5’s?

My neighbor, Greg, just told me via text that “people” are talking about me, saying I’ve lost my mind. It would be funny if it weren’t so pathetic. I mean, if they actually KNEW me, they would know my mind has been gone for a very long time!

I told him that saying something doesn’t make it true, and I’m not going to lose sleep over someone else’s insecurities.

ArGee, I don’t know if I could ever learn to adapt to being without a car. Having things within walking distance is good, but I would be constantly wearing a HUGH backpack to get what I wanted or needed.

“catch and eat the tasty foreign buggers” policy.

Even if the bureaucrats allowed it, it's possible that such a program wouldn't gain general acceptance among the folk used to 'normal' English quisine.

After all, crawfish bisque tastes nothing like blood pudding...
