New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I was up at 0415, after a horrible night. I have discovered that of the several different brands of yogurt that Walmart sells, there are two that I can’t eat without repercussions: Yoplait and Dannon, and I think they are actually from the same company.

Great Value hasn’t come out with a good Greek-style yogurt, so once again, I am eating Chobani, which I don’t really want to do. But I need the yogurt for my evening meal. Which is where I made my mistake last night: Dannon.

Anyway, even though I was up early (sorta) I had to wait for the computer to update, so I took a shower, and it still had 70% to go, so I went to Wally’s and got more yogurt, and rice pudding. And water. I still need to get the water out of the back of the truck but I was so disgruntled that I couldn’t back in until I had awakened the neighbors that I just left it.

When I came home this thing was finally done updating, and I’m sure gleaning every ounce of information from my keystrokes and Favorites, that they may as well be sleeping with me. GAH!

And now, for my next trick, I plan to have another breathing treatment. The humidity is WAY up this morning. I know, because I can feel it on my skin.

Charlotte police chief is on FOX news now, with a non-political explanation of the death of said perp.

Who was brandishing a sidearm. No doubt stolen.

What the heck is wrong with people these days? All they want to do is riot and commit mayhem. I think Jesus is coming soon, because He’s gotta be really ticked off at this stuff.

As Mayor I’d be tempted to say something like.

We care about you, and we care about your right to protest peacably.

But if you threaten people or property, you’re going to find out EXACTLY how much your life matters.

If you don’t like the emergency room, keep it peaceful.

That would be me, too.

I have zero tolerance for stupidity and buttheads. But I think that’s redundant.

If a mine field needs to exist ,it will find a home in the uk.

“catch and eat the tasty foreign buggers”

policy.” We did offer. The gov said no. Simple solutions to simple problems don’t involve enough civil servants.

Then again, the printing firms flourish under such befuddled regulations, paving the road to hell with paper, paper, and yet more paper.

End goal being the perfect sanitary aluminum tree described in C.S. Lewis', "That Hideous Strength". Does anyone else have that uneasy sense that we are living that story?

We need more laws because more laws meaans more enforcement.

And more enforcement means we finally get the police state we’ve been trying to create.

As the bad guy said in “The Winter Soldier.” People won’t let you take away their freedom. But if you make them feel like they need your protection, they’ll surrender their freedom in a heart beat.

Actually, that’s my paraphrase, but it’s close enough.

I loaded up the gang and went to church with some things I needed to deliver. Managed that, but I couldn’t do some other stuff because the Spanish prayer group was meeting in the main room. Then we stopped at Harris Teeter and got some stuff that we mostly didn’t need but it was discounted. And milk.

It’s raining a bit. I think Jake and I will go to bed after a while.

I sometimes wander into Best Buy, but I never buy anything unless I have it on my list. My retirement account is empty enough as it is.

Huh, I never thought of that.

I’ve finished phoning a bunch of people to nag them (in Spanish) about attending meetings at church. Now I deserve a Naptime.

This has been a very strange day for me. I got very tired, all of a sudden, and went in to take a nap (without a cat) and when I woke up I had a bazillion text messages.

I went down to talk to the peeps and ended up going to the monthly manager’s meeting with them, then went back out to the ramada.

Just now, I got the water out of the trunk and brought it in, and realized I’m no longer working for Greyhound. I think my arm muscles will be sore tomorrow.

Nothing that I ordinarily do in a morning has been done, thanks to this cranky computer and it’s stupid updates. I couldn’t even check my account balance before I went to Walmart, so I skimped on what I was going to get according to the last time I looked, which was yesterday afternoon.

Now, I have to go in and have another breathing treatment. And so it goes. ;o]

I’m about to start cooking supper. That should get Jake out of bed to tell me Mao! I’m hoping to mop the floors this evening, if DP will take the horde to the gym.

Jake just killed a rabbit. I took it away from him before he could eat its head. That’s the second corpse today.

At least now I know for certain it’s Jake doing it, and not Bill or Sally.

I’ve been plagued with chest pains, and I’m pretty sure it’s the weather, as the humidity was at 88% when I got up and is still 58%. My lungs are desert lungs for sure.

With what’s going on in my chest, I don’t really want to eat. It’s been so long since I’ve had to deal with this, it’s rather disconcerting.

Jake the Bunny Killer. What a claim to fame! LOL!

One of these days, he may get too old to do that, or mess with the wrong bunny. There isn’t much you can do to stop it, for sure.

I just wish he would hunt and eat stuff out in the woods, instead of near the back door.

Poor misunderstood Jake.

Every hunter needs to show his prowess. Helps keep the social order intact. Lets you know he’s rough and ready if times get tough and that he’s willing to share the bounty.

Then again Jake could be just another stone cold killer.
