New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Around here we go shopping on foot.

We buy as much as we can carry, no more.

And before I got Mr Bill, I walked to Walmart (a mile) in the early AM (winter and summer) and tried to take the first bus back, which took longer to do than walking and shopping, together. And I carried a HUGH backpack that held up to four bags of groceries, with a large tote to carry the bulky things in.

Life is good, these days. But I would do it again, even though I’m getting a little old to be doing all that...still if the need arose...

"Who doesn’t need a rose?"

I try to remember to be thankful that thornbushes have roses, and not regret that rosebushes have thorns. (Or, as 'Face would put it, þorns.)

Thanks, Bob. But I have no idea where the (porns) came from, since I don’t know how to do that.

I just know that life without the silly/serious stuff is not really life at all. So I work at being who I am because of who I am.

Thorn is a symbol or letter in some old Saxon I guess alphabets. It's made on the screen by writing & thorn ; without the spaces, like this, þ -- then you can combine it with other words like þis.

& thorn ; is not very much of a short cut to use one symbol þ instead of two letters th, but we play with the toys we find.

Guest Walker, Solicitors...

in Butchers Lane.

I guess that’s appropriate if they are like US lawyers.

LoL.
With the the number of times I’ve walked down that lane I’ve never bothered to actually read that sign.
Now it will cause a grin that will need to be explained.....

It truly was a loss to the world when that Ministry was closed down after a Cabinet reshuffle.
All of the Private Secretaries , Permanent Private Secretaries ,Permanent Secretaries, Permanent UnderSecretaries, etc, where all relocated within HM Government. This explains a lot.
