New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Good luck with the pest eradication, and I hope you have fun with the pictures.

We’re doing the 1:00 p.m. Mass in Spanish and the 4:30 in English, so it’s going to be a very busy afternoon. I should put a diet cola in my bag to help me stay awake!

I’m not sure my HOA would allow chickens!

The kittehs are being very good sports. I’m trying to keep them happy with new cat towers, the red dot, and the feather on a string, but they miss their big two story house and back yard. Poor Chloe can’t go out until we move to the new place in October.

It was in the 90s earlier this week and I thought that was nice. I never thought I’d say that, but 90s are much better than 100s!

Ninety is nice, for newcomers, but those of us who have been in the desert forever feel almost chilled at that temp. Probably because a lot of us older folks are on blood thinners!

Those texters last night have really messed up my day. I keep thinking I have to go lie down, but I’m afraid I would sleep the morning away.

I hope the drama is over for now. :o|

Wow. Two Masses on the same day? That’s a lot of Latin! Take two diet colas, just in case. Tomorrow, when I go to Wally’s, I will get a bottle of white Pink Drink. Just because.

Somehow, I ended up with two working copies of my personal history, (probably when the computer shut down that day) and decided to play kindergarten (copy and paste, as it was originally!) and delete the second one. The computer program wouldn’t let me merge the documents, so I just copied what I wanted and will worry about chronological placement, later.

My nephew (Daniel Lasko, #36) made a good showing in the first quarter of the Saints/Raiders game, and his mom is very obviously excited and proud.

I’m too tired to watch the rest of the game, but if I had some beer and some buffalo wings, I could probably fake it for a while!

Off to bed, folks...later...

Hope you have a good night. We started practicing at 9:00 this morning and finished the second Mass (English) at 5:30 p.m. I spent far too many hours in my hurt-your-feet shoes! Father Hanson, our usual Sunday-evening substitute priest, thanked “the Spanish choir,” which confused people who don’t know us.

Oh, well. If they thought we were good, maybe they’ll try coming to the Spanish Mass sometime! Don Manuel is playing guitar and Asuncion is leading the choir next week.

You're getting confused with Irish football or Rugby Football.

A try - five points are awarded for touching the ball down in your opponent's goal area. A conversion - two points are added for a successful kick through the goalposts after a try. A goal kick - three points are awarded for a penalty kick or drop goal through the posts.

If the ball goes over the crossbar, a point is scored and a white flag is raised by an umpire. A point is scored by either kicking the ball over the crossbar, or fisting it over, in which case the hand must be closed while striking the ball. If the ball goes below the crossbar, a goal, worth three points, is scored, and a green flag is raised by an umpire. A goal is scored by kicking the ball into the net, not by fist passing the ball into it. However, a player can strike the ball into the net with a closed fist if the ball was played to him by another player or came in contact with the post/crossbar/ground prior to connection. The goal is guarded by a goalkeeper. Scores are recorded in the format Goal Total-Point Total. To determine the score-line goals must be converted to points and added to the other points. For example, in a match with a final score of Team A 0–21 Team B 4–8, Team A is the winner with 21 points, as Team B scored only 20 points (4 times 3, plus 8).

This is that other game....um.....Soccer.
Now, moving quickly on to the rules of Cricket..... :D

"Now, moving quickly on to the rules of Cricket"

This from the people who gave us 5,280 feet per mile, 12 inches to the foot, and 3 feet to the yard, and furlongs, fortnights, and rods and fathoms.

Makes Fahrenheit degrees seem almost sensible.
