New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Tuesday continues. Next thing here is the arrival of a tree-service person to tell us what it will cost to get the tree in our front yard pruned and otherwise tidied-up.

The tree-service man said it would be $500 up front for his company to send a crew out to check out our trees ... but for $50 personal check to him, he cut off the branch that was blocking the sidewalk and enough of the others to make it look tidy.

Win.

BIG win!

I just finished folding the clothes.

And while I was in Wally’s this morning, I realized I didn’t get any tubs OR boxes this payday. I need to do it for sure, next payday, as packing at the last minute distresses me to the point that I can’t think straight. And I need a clear head for the move itself.

I have a load of stuff for the thrift store, as well.

(Epic Fail Latino Lawn Service is here again today. I preferred it when it was just Carlos on the riding mower, as he got it all done in a couple of hours.)

I looked on eBay and Amazon for “Mosheim’s Church History,” and though it is available from a lot of seller’s, none were lower than $19.95 + S&H. So I will literally shelve that idea for another time. (I keep running into references for it, and felt I would need to get my own copy. Haha.)

It is always fun trying to locate the oldest part of a Church, the Victorians where master fakers.
As for murders......perfect location. Especially the dark alleyway leading to the market place.

So they say. Er, show..

I have a tube of that here on my desk. Somewhere. By the time the season of cold arrives and I really need it, I will have located it and moved it to the top of the stack.

Right now the area that it is (or should be) in is occupied with a tube of topical Benadryl® for soothing relief from bites from assorted bloodsuckers..

When I am outdoors in the evening I need Son#2 standing in close proximity. The hematophagic critters seem to prefer his IR and CO2 signatures over mine. It is a trait that he inherited from his paternal Grandfather.

But he refuses to help his Father and hides indoors leaving me as the entree...

My Representatives (U.S. and State) are mid-level Southern politicians straight out of Central Casting.

I have finished cleaning my closet, Ah-CHOO!, except for the clothes on two small shelves, which I will sort when the weather gets cooler and I want to find warmer clothes.

I found my Day of the Dead Costume.

Which is ... what? A coffin?

Sounds like no fun to wear.

Thank you TC. :)
But I still feel that Four pints was a bit of an indulgence.
It is good stuff though. Nicholson’s Pale Ale. Goes down like water.
Then the floor develops a barrel shape in all directions.
:D
