New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Looks like an Abyssinian, but the site didn’t specify, so it could be a mix. Sometimes I get pictures from an Abyssinian breeder’s site.

Epic Fail Plumbing Service is going to do something to the upstairs hall toilet. Please pray!

The Year of the Monkey is a GREAT year! I was born in one! And this one is proving to be pretty friendly for me. I like it!

:small voice: Ohno. Not the Epic Fail Plumbing Service! Eeeek!

For some reason, I feel tired today. I fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow (1830) and slept, for the most part, until 0400, with a few breaks. The longest I slept was four hours. Which is very good, considering.

A medical company is supposed to bring me a new nebulizer this morning, so I’m hoping it will be soon. I hate being held hostage by companies. I know, some times, it’s unavoidable, but still...

The printer is up and running, and I checked the “owner’s manual” (online) and found it has a “Draft” option! YES! Now I can save ink! Woo-hoo! This printer has four cartridges. Interesting.

Bummer about that! You’re always welcome on the Undead Thread ;-), where no conversation is too trivial.

Epic Fail has broken the toilet. He claims it’s not his fault. I’m going to call a professional.

Our printer has a “low-res” option, too.

Somehow, I knew that would be the outcome. Once, a young missionary visited me, last time I lived in St George. I had met him and his companions in Tucson, and his family lived in St George.

So when I moved there, he and his brother visited a lot. This guy was, in size, a lot like Tom, but maybe heavier.

He asked to use the euphemism one day and when he came out, he looked embarrassed and said in a small voice, “Sister Duncan, I broke the toilet seat.” He went right to the store and bought another and put it in for me.

Yeah — Epic Fail seems to have a lot of branches...

I like the “low res” option, which my last printer didn’t have, and that’s why I went through so much ink.

These cartridges are small, but I’m hoping the “Draft” option will make up for that.

LOL! I think Tom had the right idea for fixing the toilet, but instead of removing Piece A from Piece B, he broke the connection. The plumber should be able to shut the water off to the whole house and then replace the line from the wall out, or something.

The plumber can come tomorrow morning before 9:00, which isn’t bad for a situation where we don’t have horrible things flooding the house.

“And now, the question is, do I get a dedicated FAX line installed? I have to send FAXes to someone about twice to three times a year, so I wonder about it.”

Since your need for FAX service is so infrequent, I’d recommend you just use faxzero.com to send those few FAX documents. If your document is 3 pages or less you can send it free.

You scan your document into your computer (if it isn’t on your computer, already), then upload it to the faxzero website to send it. You’ll provide an email to faxzero so the site can notify you when your document is successfully sent, or — rarely — if there was a problem with the transmission.

We’ve used the service many times in the past, and have no foul-ups, bleeps or blunders to report. Check it out.

Kathleen lost her Elsa ring under the stove. Tom moved the stove, and the ring was found, along with much petrified food and some dead stuff. Also found was rot under the floor mat in front of the sink.

It’s all cleaned up now, and Shannon is snooping around grumbling that there was dead stuff and she hates wet floors.

Well, for two of my kids being a grandparent might lose some of its grandness because it would mean they had reproduced.

But maybe their other halves (when they meet them) will make up for the deficiencies.

Was EF adjusting it or using it?

It’s hard to break a toilet. Those things are some of the simplest things in plumbing.

Unless it’s a low-gallon toilet.

(eek!)

I didn’t make it up...I just repeated it.

It’s really quite funny if you can get the whole Ebonics things in your head...I mean, from a deeply Southern multi-colored teen mother. :o|

Yes, well, it was probably past time for some Spring Cleaning in the general area of the stove, sink and dishwasher, anyway, so a little rot under the floor mat should be expected. Maybe.
