Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Nah. There’s one in the kitchen for emergencies. ;o]
Showered and dressed and semi-ready for the day. I was going to go to Walmart for boxes and such, but I think I’ll wait until Friday. Today is payday for the Great Unwashed Masses, and I can’t deal with them, even this early, at Wally’s. They seem to all crawl out of the woodwork at the same time. *shudder*
One of the T shirts you sent me was too small for a night shirt, so I hung it in the closet, even though it was too small for daily wear. Today, I put it on, and it’s baggy! YAY! Not quite sleep-shirt-baggy, but close! Thanks! And it’s the only thing in my closet that is purple.
The weather has my joints really stiff, but not too achy. It just makes me clumsy. Argh. Maybe I’ll go see about a haircut this morning. Maybe. Or not. We’ll see how I feel in two hours.
I’ve never been one to sleep in, except when I was a teen, and that’s because my body was going through so many changes. And even then, a lot of summer mornings would find me going quietly down the stairs and out the front door to sit on the bench under the linden tree to watch the sunrise. My favorite time of day...new beginnings.
Got one with bunnehs?
“Her hares in the sink,
are driving me to drink...”
*ouch*
LOL!
“For breakfast she makes coffee that tastes like sham....poo
And for dinner it’s peanut butter stew
or if I’m in luck
it’s broiled hockey puck
My ex, bless her heart, on her first try at suburban grilling left 6 lovely lamb chops on the grill a tad too long while talking on the phone - nice hockey pucks with handles.
Our first dinner guests waited and waited for the roast beef to cook. Showed my tender concern by offering to inspect it while she entertained our guests. After calling a local restaurant for an immediate reservation, I quietly explained that the pilot setting on the old oven didn’t mean auto-pilot. The recovery at the restaurant saved her from the further mortification of revealing six artichokes sitting in my cast iron pan slowly frying away.
But as her mother, the good Dr. Betty said, “I didn’t send my daughter to Harvard to acquire cooking skills”.
Veritas.....in deed.
I gathered up a bag that had photos in it that I was going to scan, all sorted (at the time) into who they belonged to, or what part of my life.
They were ALL mixed up. So I found all the pics of your kids that you have sent over the years, and there are quite a few of them. I’m sure that’s not all. The rest will turn up soon, I’m sure.
Scanning photos is boring. For me, anyway. For today.
There was a photo in the pile of family and other photos, of my mother and I’m going to put it on FB. She was very pretty.
Tom would love that. We have to borrow a tennis racquet.
I think scanning photos is boring for everyone.
We’re back from Kathleen’s horseback riding activity. She did extremely well and gets to go back in a couple of weeks. I just texted you a picture.
with jello blobs, tennis racket, badminton racquet, squash, heck, a large colander are all good.
The hard part is tossing that big jello blob.
;>)
English or western tack?
Western. Anoreth rode Western in Oklahoma and English after we moved here.
Tom says he’s seen that video before.
“What we do when the power’s out! What do we do when the lights go..”
*Insert sound of chainsaw*
They’ll probably try to weasel out of paying me for it.
Taking a closer look that top bank of breaker looks like someone is jacking the juice. Mixed bag of screws, nothing aligns. And " oh hell, that looks like a gas line black pipe." ????
Yup.
Someone is jacking power.
That does look like gas line.
Oh this will be F-U-N!
Oh..
College dorm food.
I’ve made baked goods that had hockey-puck features.
