New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Yah, me too. I’d like to get an appointment next week. I’m also trying to schedule a horseback riding activity for Kathleen. The lady at the stable said she’d email me some available times, but I haven’t received anything. She probably didn’t get the email address right when I told her over the phone, so I emailed her an “I’m sure it’s my fault” reminder.

I’m missing the scenic views of England which make me think about damp and murder.

And don’t forget the mayhem, arsenic and old lace. And the tea. We need the tea for this.

If Trigger is a Freeper, then not that I’m aware of.

If you’re talking about Roy Rogers’ old horse my position is still that I neither confirm nor deny those rumors.

I thought they had died over a decade ago. Oh, well.

Well, NYC is a sanctuary city, too. And littelest ArGee seemed to like to date illegals for a while there.

At least her current BF is legal, although he may be an anchor for parents who aren’t.

My finger is almost “normal” size now, and my tooth only hurts in spasms this morning.

Well, if you stay away from spasms (wherever that is) you should be fine.

there are many people whose bedrock philosophy is, "The only ‘right’ way to be is LIKE ME."

I really don't understand those people. Obviously they're wrong, all of them, since none of them is like me.

And then there’s the women.

Or, maybe you didn’t mean ...

Nevermind.

I’ve pretty well decided that I’ll only vote down-ballot. If I thought Hillary could possibly win NY by one vote I might change my mind. But since my conservative vote is lost in the noise here in NYC I’m going to do avoid sullying my soul.

The idea of being all alone against entropy is unbearable

I agree 100% with the philosophy, but I would name the fear differently. I think we're afraid of insignificance.

Even the athiests who say we just use Jesus as a crutch so we won't feel insignificant are projecting.

And, of course, knowing that God was willing to die so I could live does a great job of making me feel significant.

Clay McLean (mcleanministries.org) used to tell about a person who was refusing to forgive her father.

Her father had been dead for years.

He asked her, "Do you think you're hurting HIM???"

I can take care of that for you right over the Interwebs.

Don’t move your right arm.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Plus,if the urchins have to take care of things because you can’t move your arm, it might encourage at least some of them to explore life on their own.

Yep. Which is why I forgive, because death is for a long time, and one never knows when your time is. This morning, we had two ambulances in here. The first one contained a person who was home a few hours later.

The second one was for a guy who was found on the floor of his apartment. No one knows what the prognosis for him is, yet, but he’s been having trouble with his kidneys and his liver.

And the death of my own mother was a wake up call for me. I knew she was dying and I was having a hard time forgiving her. Then I realized: If I DON’T forgive her, and she dies, I will have to live the rest of my life thinking of my lost opportunity and not being able to tell her.

And so, I forgive everyone for everything.

Well, THAT’S a relief. And I don’t even have to tell you what I did.

... knowing that God was willing to die so I could live does a great job of making me feel significant.

Or alternatively, that knowledge gives you the assurance that you're not alone against entropy, which is another name for death.

Distinguished, white-haired Dr. Hall diagnosed tendonitis and/or bursitis in my shoulder and gave me a cortisone shot. It feels better already ... that’s from the local anesthetic that’s in the injection with the cortisone.

He said to be more careful about weightlifting: your joints get cranky when you’re 50.

I have intensive empathy for you! (Not that it helps!)

I have chronic bursitis in most of my joints. I don’t know the onset, or the reasons, but I do know that it is always been painful for me to hold hands with anyone.

Igor thought it was because I didn’t want to hold hands with him. Then he heard the doctor’s diagnosis. It was one of the very few times that he ever apologized to me. And this was in the late ‘70’s.

I’m grateful for your empathy, even if it’s the drugs making my arm feel better ;-).

Oh, here’s Bill.
