New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

In some environments he would be invisible, but not on your desk.

I’m going to the gym this morning. Various young persons will be told they are coming with me.

On MY desk he would be invisible. If he could find a spot to lie down in. (A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind.)

Our cats just knock things to the floor when they want to sit.

In other news...

Yesterday, Charlie did something very touching for me: He cut out the obituary for my favorite weather prognosticator from the Review-Journal for me. It brought tears to my eyes.

And my “friend,” LuDean is hyper-critical of everyone, so I can’t help wondering what she says about me when I leave the bunch of them.

More and more, I see how she talks about other people and has no tolerance for people (women) who can’t “fight back” with fists and weapons. She said her dad forced she and her siblings to box, learn martial arts and handle a gun. I looked at her and said, “I had no dad to teach me those things.” It didn’t stop her.

Obviously, your cats haven’t seen my desk. ;o]

I’m off to Walgreen’s.

That was very sweeet of Charlie.

As for LuDean, there are many people whose bedrock philosophy is, “The only ‘right’ way to be is LIKE ME.” It is tiresome, and often one just has to shrug and ignore them. If they were happy, they’d be off doing happy things, rather than sitting around putting others down.

And with that, I’m off to forcibly (or forcefully) dress some Young Persons so that we can go to the gym before it’s so hot we all collapse again.

There are many people who measure the world only against themselves as a yardstick. Their world is very, very small.

Back. No clove oil, no Anbesol, so I got some Oragel, which I don’t like, but it will have to do for now. I would have gone to Wally’s to look for it, but just didn’t feel up to it. Probably tomorrow.

It’s getting light outside, and it looks to be mostly cloudy. I just heard sirens, and then they died. Then I heard a truck with a large diesel engine and air brakes, and couldn’t figure it out, being still in a wake-up mode.

I stepped outside the patio fence and found it was the paramedics. (Siren.) And the garbage truck is right behind it... (There may be some humor in that.) I seem to have forgotten that when we hear sirens that quit, it means they are coming into one of the driveways. This time, it’s my driveway. And all the noise will probably wake Charlie up long before his time to walk.

As old as I am, Bob, I learn new things every day, and often, it’s about myself.

This gal is so focused on Trump that no one will interrupt her when she gets started. It’s almost as if she is trying to convince herself how great and wonderful he is. And this from the woman who voted for Ovomit in the last election!

I’m still trying to decide who to vote for. I’ve done a lot of pondering about that, for sure.

"I’m still trying to decide who to vote for. I’ve done a lot of pondering about that, for sure."

Go see a movie, and think about it. I recommend Dinesh D'Sousa's "Hillary's America".

That should help you make up your mind.

I’m not having trouble trying to decide between Trump and Killary. It’s between Trump and Johnson.

Killary is going to finish what Ovomit started, if she gets in.

No thanks.

Nicht. Nein. HELL no!

As I was on the treadmill reading a book about Jesus, I thought of LuDean and was filled with compassion for her. She is afraid, as we all are, and her opinions are a defense mechanism against the overwhelming fear of entropy. “Because I was taught to shoot and do martial arts,” the worst thing can’t happen to me. Entropy won’t get me, “because Donald Trump will save us all.”

We all have our own psychological fortifications. When my father was alive, mine was, “Dad will rescue me,” if it’s ever necessary. Now I think, “I’m useful.” I’m educated, clean, orderly, punctual, bilingual. I can clean a house, take care of a baby, organize a committee. Therefore, someone will find it worthwhile to keep disaster away from me. Or I think “the worst won’t happen” because Anoreth is a warrior, Tom is a bear, Pat is a freak genius, Frank needs me. I’ve invested in the children, and they’ll be there for me.

The idea of being all alone against entropy is unbearable, so we throw something up ... anything ... in between.

LuDean has three kids, two of whom are retired policemen. Every day when I pray, I ask the Lord to forgive her. It’s all I can do.

And, as I do with most people, I forgive her every day. It’s all I can do, because I certainly don’t want to harbor any bad feelings about her. Life is too short for that.

(This should have been with the last post...)

Oh, yes. We all have that *knock-knock* Invisible Shield between us and “Them.” Some of them are disguised as something else, but we all have them. And a lot of them are not even recognized by those that are protected by them.

Well, phoop. I remembered - I was going to call my doctor to make an appointment regarding the pain when I move my right arm - but their phone system isn’t working due to “network difficulties,” and they don’t have an online appointment request. When you click on “Request Appointment” at their website, it says, “Call on the phone!”
