Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I’m very tired today.
I’m sure it is that tooth, and when I go to Walgreen’s in the morning to get my prescription for the neck meds, I’m going to check the price of clove oil. I used to keep it on hand, but somehow, I don’t have it. I probably gave it to Busdaddy in a fit of compassion a couple of years ago.
I hope it’s not too expensive, because I really need some relief. And no, the morphine isn’t making a dent in the pain.
Good to see the Sun was out, Argee.
We had rain this morning.
I was in NYC once and that was enough. Sorry, but I just don’t care for the place.
And now kids, I’m off to watch the Blanket Show! See all y’all tomorrow!
We’re getting rain tonight. Probably will start about the time I begin the 4-times-a-week drive around lookin for alternate-side parking.
Flash flood warnings are in effect. Too bad those flash floods never put a dent in the rat population.
I mean the 4-legged rat population. Not the Democrats. Not that they’re easy to tell apart.
About the same way I feel about LVNV.
But, it’s a living.
I’m not good with pictures.
Sorry about your tooth, hope you have a good night!
Still prodding S1 into that position. At 21, he’s ripe, but $10.50 an hour part-time at Chik-fil-A isn’t very enabling. Pushing him to bring his other skills to bear in something above the minimum wage market.
That’s about what our S1 makes working the deli counter at Harris Teeter. Once he finishes his final college course, which will be in a couple of weeks, he hopes they’ll let him work full-time, at least, while he hunts for a “real job.”
These days, that counts as poetry; and pretty good poetry at that. It's better than some self-styled "poets laureate" I've seen.
The local airport isn’t very crowded, it’s a 05:30 flight, first of four that day.
Nope, visiting a vendor.
Are you, perchance, related to Trigger Argee?
[bows] High praise indeed, sir.
‘Tis a positively pastoral setting.
Somewhere.
Just not at Canal and Centre..
I don’t like LVNV either, but I like the climate. And I’m 15 miles from the city and only have to deal with it once a month, so until I can leave, I’ll do just that: Deal with it.
I’m sure I would hate it even more if I had to work there these days. When I first moved here, it was still a small town and had that sleepy feeling that a lot of desert towns have. Not now. Too much crime and too many people. ‘
And worst of all LVNV is a sanctuary city.
Looks almost like camouflage kitteh! Pretty coloring.
And once again, it’s morning. So howdy, everybody!
My finger is almost “normal” size now, and my tooth only hurts in spasms this morning.
I will shower and then go to Walgreen’s and get the stuff for my neck, and check on the clove oil. I think I won’t be without it until I can get my mouth worked on in St. George. I don’t know what that will cost me, but I will somehow manage it.
