Antique SKS rifle used by Dallas Killer (No Ar-15 used)

Initial reports from Dallas described multiple snipers with AR-15s #weaponsofwar. The ongoing propaganda theme among the tabloids is that the AR-15 has become the weapon of choice for terrorists and mass shooters. It turns out that the terrorist in Dallas question used an antique, the SKS, (according to CBS News) but the facts never keep the press from a good propaganda theme.

The SKS was designed in the 40’s in Russia. It is such a basic rifle that it is legal in California with no modification. With its fixed ten round magazine, the SKS is everything that the gun haters in California say a rifle must be. It is not black, no pistol grip, no flash hider or folding stock. It even shoots a intermediate power cartridge, 7.63 X 39. It is used as a cheap hunting gun across the US. I am sure that at this moment, some law maker in California is writing new legislation to close the mad man with an antique rifle loophole.

Some of the Russian models had an especially heavy coat of storage cosmoline, even in the firing pin channel of the bolt. It took a lot of solvent and scrubbing to ensure that the firing pin wasn’t going to “stick” and cause problems.

Bullshit.

This thug killed 5 officers and wounded about 6 more. He was given a chance to come out for hours and didn’t take it. How many lives are you willing to sacrifice to save this dirtbag?

Get an effing clue. Seriously.

What’s with Dallas and antique rifles being used for killing? On a Friday 53 years ago, we were also glued to the TV after a shooting/killing/assassination there.

Same thought. Lee Harvey and his Carcano

“The SKS can be reloaded with stripper clips that make it fairly rapid with practice.”

Very few people practice using stripper clips anymore. I load my Mosin with stripper clips but it is not easy. He would be fairly close to his victims using the 7.62x39mm.

I’m going to guess he used a Yugo SKS that use those ugly 30 round magazines and possibly the folding polymer after-market stock.>>>> my sks loads easily with the stripper clips. if you pre load the stripper clips you need a rubber band or something to keep it all together.

Antique firearms (according to the BATF) are those with a receiver manufactured prior to 1899. 1898 and earlier do NOT fall under the BATF’s jurisdiction. The SKS is NOT an antique firearm.

This is a principle point we should focus on. The AR is just an incremental target for the gun grabbers. If for some way there was a ban and confiscation of AR’s and AKs and every one was somehow confiscated, the next gun mass shooting would happen with the next level, or worse. A 30.06 scoped deer rifle “one shot one kill” is probably worse than an AR in any sort of mass murder/sniper situation, and they would be targeted by the gun grabbers... Then shotguns, all semi automatics,... but the point is that the end desired result by the left is a total gun ban.

Then terrorists in the US (enemies both foreign and domestic) will just resort to bombs, machetes or some other weapon.

But the The real point to walk away with is that the real weapon is the person with the intent to do harm to innocents, and liberals only are using this, twisting it to make it about the gun; The material object used as a tool, amoral (without morality), and to attach a moral quality to an inanimate object is the ultimate in materialism.

The guy went to war on the police, the police continued to use cop tactics and got killed.
The shooter used tactics that gave him maximum results with minimum risks.

There is body armour rated to stop M2 armour piercing ammo. It’s so heavy and bulky that it restricts the ability to move properly.

Read my post. I’m glad the guy was DRT. My issue is with the robot and bomb becoming a standard tactical response. Try to focus on what I am saying.

I’ve seen situations where the “bad guy” was motivated to do something because a loved one had a gun to their head elsewhere or they had a remote device attached to them.

The story here is that the turd was cornered and was not a direct threat. Why blow his ass up? Why not wait? I’d prefer they would have taken him cuz we would have possibly learned more and trust me, in Texas he would have been given the needle. Even out of Dallas or even Austin which are only kinda part of Texas.

Got that? I’m fine with him going straight to hell but I’m questioning the robot bomb thing.

No, but it’s on the Curio and Relic list. That’s what he meant. You can still get a Collector’s License (07 FFL I believe), and have C&R firearms like SKS’s and Grand and 1903 Springfield and Mosins shipped straight to your house. Even CA doesn’t have a waiting period on these guns.

I had a Russian SKS made in 1950 that was very well finished the stock was cherry wood. It was a beautiful rifle and under 100 yards accurate in my hands. About 20 years ago I decided that I didn't want any commie weapons and sold my SKS, AK47, AK74, Mosins, Mackarovs, and Tokoravs. I only now have basic US weapons.

I am wishing I picked up the classic SKS, bayonet and wood stock, without the 30 round mag.

I have done wood work on gun stocks before, and a blond refinish with a good blueing would be beautiful.

My brother has an old beat up on without the bayonet, and it is surprisingly accurate.

I’ve got a Yugo. They `weep’ cosmoline forever, especially if left in the truck bed on a hot day. I steam cleaned mine and that helped. I’ve heard some ran the stock through the dishwasher.
Good luck breaking your fall with a TAPCO’D SKS.

Of course our commander in chief has already made anti gun remarks implying we should pass more gun control.

You know, Obama has cost me a small fortune in firearms purchases and now I have to get an SKS.

Thanks a lot Obama!

Actually he was a bricklayer in an engineering co. No evidence that he had training other than basic or that he was in combat.

Could have trained on his own of course.
