An F-35 fighter pilot says he would be confident flying the Joint Strike Fighter against any enemy in the world, including Russian and Chinese 5th Generation stealth fighters.
An F-35 Joint Strike Fighter would be able to use its sensors, weapons and computer technology to destroy Russian and Chinese 5th-Generation Stealth fighters in a high-end combat fight, service officials said.
There is nothing that I have seen from maneuvering an F-35 in a tactical environment that leads me to assume that there is any other airplane I would rather be in. I feel completely comfortable and confident in taking that airplane into any combat environment, Lt. Col. Matt Hayden, 56th Fighter Wing, Chief of Safety, Luke AFB, Arizona, told Scout Warrior in a special pilot interview.
Furthermore, several F-35 pilots have been clear in their resolve that the multi-role fighter is able to outperform any other platform in existence.

Patently ridiculous. The F-22 would stuff it up its own tailpipe.

“Perform” has almost no meaning in today’s world anyway. Outside of dogfights, most of the battles are BVR controlled by avionics.
I didn’t google it but have there been many real dogfights in the last 20 years? From all I have read the F-15 still can outperform the new F-35, the latter which was mission-creeped to death.
Airframe-wise, probably not. Avionics-wise, definitely.
Well, AWACS are probably the most important thing if you think about it.
I ave a cousin who flew F-18s off of carriers for the Navy.
He has helped with the F-35 and completely disagrees with you.
With its stealth, sensor fusion, longer range, etc. he says it is in fact going to be better than the Super Hornet.
While the F-35 has a very powerful radar, that's only part of it.
It is surrounded by IR and RF sensors and has been proven to detect an AA missile launch from 1200nm. The IR sensors have a full "bubble" detection...all directions.
It can even jam the F-22's radar and was considered for a radar jamming/Growler role.
It sees and tracks every object in the air for hundreds of miles in every direction and can even control multiple UCAVs.
