Why should ANY movie be “remade”?

It seems that Hollywood does not have the imagination to determine which current books would be great movies. Add to that, writing is at times just plain awful in current TV and movies.

The ones that should never be remade are the ones that were near-perfection to begin with. The Time Machine is an example of that. So is GhostBusters.

The original “War of the Worlds” was much better than the remake. (I called the remake “Independence day meets Star Wars (Imperial walkers). I walked out halfway through.

The original “Flight of the Phoenix” was much better than the remake.

etc.

Occasionally a remake works and improves upon the original as in the count of monte cristo,or moby dick but the norm is to piggyback on the original and flop

Ghost busters was never a classic

Yep. Hollywood should have never re-made Ben Hur when the original silent movie was so much better than the one with Charlton Heston. / s

And I have to say that, and while I love John Wayne, the remake of True Grit was much better than the original. Much truer to the book especially the ending.

they are so proud of their all-women cast but they couldn’t even demonstrate the talent to make an original movie

they have to try to ride the coat-tails of a popular movie in this “re-make” because they are no-talent hacks

Exactly! Hollywood has no new ideas so they keep making the same movies over and over.

I used to like Melissa McCarthy when she was in TV's Gilmore Girls.....now, not so much.

As Ted Templeman famously said, “if you redo a proven hit, you’re already halfway there.”

Made or remade, the only reason is to make money.

I think the remakes of foreign films are worthy. Examples that come to mind are: Some Like It Hot, and True Lies. Both are remakes of foreign films, and both of these were French movies.

Some of the old horror movies, like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Fly were also very good remakes, in my opinion.

Others like: The Maltese Falcon & Oceans 11 were received very well and in some ways were better than the original.

But for the most part, remakes fall short of the original, and I think Ghostbusters will be one of those remakes that will not be well received. Especially if the only real difference is that the characters are replaced with women.
