I have had several requests from friends to review the self-rescue gear we carry in our Get Back Home (GBH) bags, probably due to the recent but not unexpected flooding we have had this spring. Some readers may be surprised to learn that there is very little practical difference between self rescue from a flooded car and the common mountaineering skill known as rappelling.
I first began carrying self-rescue gear in our vehicles after considering how much of the highways in our major urban areas are elevated for miles and miles on end. I know what happens to these elevated freeways when they are subjected to an earthquake, or other shock wave, such as from a nuclear device.
But what concerned me just as much is that these elevated choke points are perfect kill zones. One or two lightly armed bad guys could easily cause a traffic jam and proceed to execute tens or hundreds of people until they either run out of ammunition or are stopped by someone with a firearm that is ready, willing, and able to do so.

A good reason to have a capable car gun.
Hey that’s a good idea. We’ll have to add that to our bag of tricks.
I only carry 50 feet of rope with me because it’s just about all that will fit in the bag. If I had more use for it I would pack more - but I figure that 50 feet aughta do something for me.
And one of those cheapo hooks. Nothing too nice because I’m just going to leave it somewhere anyway.
I’ve been thinking of doing that for sometime and this article will be the nudge I need to do it. My best “reacher” is a 22-250 rem 700 with a Redfield scope.
Yep. Don’t run, return fire. It seems a lot of these losers pee their pants then shoot themselves once they encounter real resistance.

A Freeper posted the above link a while back and I bought the book. A very hard read but recommended. Muzzie terrorists attack schools and freeways.
I just bought it too

Bridges are very vulnerable to jihadi type attacks.
And watch the conservatives start shooting each other is “mistaken identity” twists.
I have 75 ft 11 mm static rope, 1 of 15 ft, 1 of 12 ft for
rigging harness and anchors. 6 locking carabiners
Also have specialized training in rappelling and rescue
A 22-250 should do it. I also worry about mobs like BLM or Bernie supporters shutting down a highway. My pick is an AK with a bunch of loaded mags. It is illegal here in Colorado to carry a loaded rifle in a vehicle so I have the AK unloaded and the mags in a cloth shopping bag.
Is it illegal to have it loaded, or to have it chambered?
And, by the way, awesome pics!

Capable cargun? Sounds like a rifle in this scenario. I say a handgun and an AR.
The law is unclear so it could depend on the officer. I play it safe since it is so quick to insert a mag and I have my CCW pistol loaded too.
Here in Texas they wouldn't get far, . . . Well . . . . maybe in Austin.
Thanks, same here...
Riveting story.
Especially on audio book.
The Time Traveller’s tale warned of just this kind of mass attack.

I also thought the same thing, cause an accident on a bridge, and shoot everyone in the traffic jam.
