Don’t mess around, get a fitty six or a fitty seven.
Why do they call them “muscle” cars?
cause they cold go a straight line fast.
Those are made into rat rods,I’m not a rat rod guy.
I have a 73 Duster waiting in the garage....
Red Barchetta if you will.
Because they had big, powerful engines.
What are you waiting for?

They were called muscle cars because they had huge engines and a lot of power at the time.
I can no longer afford new cars and have not kept up with the newer models for at least 20 years. Maybe a year ago I got free subscriptions to “Motor Trend” and “Road and Track”.
I started reading the specs and they are getting incredible amounts of horsepower out of small and medium sized engines. Actually more than the old 427, 426s.
Any make/model in particular?
The end of the '50s produced some interesting single-year designs. Just recently I saw a beautifully done '59 Chevy Impala restomod. Updated power 4-wheel disc brakes, custom wheels, 4-link rear suspension with coilovers, no more leaf springs. The front end was lowered just enough to give the car a nice stance. Kind of like the '58 Impala Sport Coupe seen in American Graffiti. The '59 has that last little bit of the "Space Age" styling, with the fins blended deeply into the rear of the car.
I ended up in traffic behind it and rolled my window down a bit so I could smell the un-catalyzed exhaust.
A true muscle car has a big block engine.
Depending on where you want to go with it, you might be better off spending more initially and getting as rust free of a car as you can find.
Once the rust gets bad, it is very hard to ever eliminate or stop it completely.
While I agree that they’ve been doing amazing things with engine tech; didn’t they change the way HP was measured/defined some years back?
What is your gotta-get-down-the-road car now, if you don't mind my asking. The one you turn to when you really need it.
I don’t know how they measure it now.
They have always been able to adjust the HP numbers either up or down according to whether it was to their advantage either way.
I had a 65 Olds Delta 88 with a 425 rocket V-8. It was rated at 360 HP but I suspect it was conservative as it ran like a bat out of hell even in that large heavy body.
I have only one now. It is a 97 Lumina with 196,000 miles on it. I have a 91 Crown Vic which tore up around 6 months ago.
My Brother-In-Law gave me the Lumina so I would have something to drive.
Once upon a time I had a ‘70 Firebird Formula 400. Sucker cooked.
