Sad situation all the way around. I really think the poor animal was startled and somewhat confused really. It just didn’t know what to do with this little thing that suddenly and literally fell into it’s world. It probably didn’t help things when people started yelling. That probably caused the gorilla to think there may have been a confrontation coming.

Black Lives Matter crowd screamed RASCISM

With the same lack of self awareness, I suppose, of your spelling. Really, this thread is disgusting.

A six year old is bigger and can think more clearly than a 4 year old, which this child is. How said child managed to get through iron barred fences and up a 5 foot stone wall is beyond me, especially since this child looks very small for a 4 year old.

The whole story, or as much as I know of it, re this "family", is that the parents aren't married, they are both grossly over weight, and the biological father is a big honcho in a violent gang and has a rap sheet miles long.

I haven't ever been to the Cincinnati Zoo. I have, however, been to all of the zoos in NYC, Chicago and its environs, and the London Zoo. I also, thanks to my kiddo, know about captive primates, the training of them, and how to create the best possible spaces for them and keep humans out. And with regard to the last bit, supposedly the Cincinnati Zoo exceeded the regulations.

The gorilla had the little boy by THE HAND, not by an arm nor leg. And yes, it makes a difference.

Do you know that many 4 year old, who live in a dysfunctional family, whose biological father is a criminal ?

I would have left the kid in there to see if he would have grown up to be a modern Tarzan.

My kiddo has degrees in a double major...Psycho-Bio with a specificity in primatology. LOL...try say that three times fast. :-)

Anyway, besides having to take some surveys for and talking about classes and reading papers on these topics, I managed to learn quite a lot.

A 17 year old gorilla, who was human raised ( yep, that silver back was )and used to people looking at him and probably worse, yes, he was probably startled and made somewhat nervous, with people SCREAMING. But he did NOT attempt to harm the child and the child was NOT hurt by him.

Why the gorilla completely ignored the clicker ( one hopes that that is what the zoo people were using ! ), is a bit disconcerting. A gorilla that age should have been so trained and used to following the behavior training, that he would have left where he was and gone back to where he was told to go.

But no....he wouldn't have thought that this was a "confrontational" situation.

There’s no better way to discredit a racist org like BLM than to call them out on cases just like this.

And these groups have found if they jump out and frame the matter, the truth never gets outs and false narratives live.

So, if they’re not called out, if it’s censored when they make fools of themselves and yell racism at the zoo, what’s the downside to their Operation?

It’s no wonder we are losing the Culture war, people want to be misled.

bullshyte, that enclosure has been in place for years and years while THOUSANDS walk past the gorillas every year. The kid told the mother he wanted to go in the water and mom wasnt watching, the kid climbs the fence that has kept THOUSANDS away for years.

Zoo’s fault, phooey. Damn mother was screaming “thats my baby” well where in the world were you a minute ago when you told your kid repeatedly that he cant to in the gorilla moat.

not fair to jump to conclusions. both parents are employed, she being employed with a school/child care for irony sake.

They’ll figure it out. And if true, the barrier designer/contractor will be named on the lawsuit as well as the zoo. And I agree with others, the parents are suffering from industrial strength stupidity. Government public schooling etc. Seems to be the norm with many parents today.

I’ve watched little kids walk right up to unfamiliar leashed dogs, like 100 lb German Shepherds, with their hand/arm extended, as the parents just stood gawking, not saying a word as the kid approached the aminal. I saw one dog owner scolding some stupid parents for not teaching their kids never ever to walk right up to an unknown, unfamiliar dog. This country has a real bad stupid people issues. It’s epidemic in my opinion.

Begs the question, it it were your kid in this case, would you risk opting to stand by and wait to see if this animal was going to remain polite and gentle? That’s a hell of a gamble.

The family I know with the biological father that did time for a felony is not in the least dysfunctional. Mom stays home with child while dad works his butt off to provide for them.

No dysfunction there, other than some depression and anxiety in all of us, because we realize that their 6 year old (my GS) will end up in a group home sooner, rather than later. He is non-verbal so he won’t even be able to tell us if he is being abused.

So yes, in your mind, we may be a dysfunctional family.

Sadly, we've had several generations, now, having children but lousy to no parenting skills at all.

It goes from complete ignoring of their offspring to the damned "helicopter" parents who NEVER allow their kids a chance to fail, nor almost no chance to breathe on their own....through college.

No parent is perfect, there never was one who was, but for crying out loud, what one sees now, it's a disaster on all levels and socio-economic levels.

I'll say one thing about Trump, that everyone should pay attention to....he and Ivana raised three FANTASTIC kiddos and did it the right way!

Interesting reply, but completely off topic, since I was talking about the child who wound up with the gorilla, and his parents. Being a leader in a gang, with a long rap sheet and not marrying the mother absolutely IS dysfunctional.

Your son committed a felony and he isn't married to the woman you called your d-i-l ?

Yes, if your grandson is THAT severely Autistic, he shouldn't be taken to the zoo nor to any other place with large crowds of strangers and lots of noise; he no doubt couldn't handle it.

I don't mean to be nosy, but you opened up about this....

Does the boy have other disabilities besides the Autism? When it it THAT bad, there are usually, though not always, other mental and/or physical problems too; sadly.

If it were my kid they never would have gotten away from me to be able to end up falling fifteen feet into a gorilla enclosure.
