Schrödinger's cat lives and dies in two boxes at once

Schrödinger's cat now has a second box to play in, thanks to an international team of physicists that has created a two-mode "Schrödinger's cat state" for the first time. The experiment brings together two purely quantum properties, in that the "cat" (i.e. the photons) is simultaneously "alive and dead" (in a superposition of states) while also in two locations at once (the two boxes are entangled with one another).

To physicists the term 'measurement' is more often used than 'observation' to mean the same thing. Schroedinger's Cat points up what is often called the 'measurement problem'. Here is a long but interesting discussion of the four current main candidates for resolution of the measurement problem for all those interested:

It's neat; but even the qubit--as--error correction requires yet
another order of observation.
Remarkable also that you must have perfection to correct error, regardless of degree.

It is assumed that particles generally don’t know what state they are in. Think about it like a toggle set to one of two positions. Einstein didn’t like the thought that, for a given period of time, the switch could be in either position.

A statement is either true or untrue. There is no middle ground between true and untrue.
Anyone who denies that first principle cannot have a discussion with someone who doesn’t.
Don’t blame me. Ask Aristotle and Aquinas.

Is Schrödinger’s cat alive or dead? The only honest answer is, “We don’t know until we look in the box.”

Some wit suggested that Schrödinger’s cat is now the feline equivalent of Dr. Manhattan in the Watchmen series.

I understand Pavlov had a lot of trouble with his cat.
Picky eater. Didn't respond to the bell.
So, he switched to dogs.

It amounted to a “throw-away line”. There’s a lot of things wrong with it, and if you start cleaning it up you’re right back in Copenhagen.

...if you start cleaning it up youre right back in Copenhagen. Yep, that's just exactly where it ends up. Plus you've got a cat totally pissed off at you and who will end up crapping in yer shoes for revenge.

Funny thing is that most of us know this theory from The Big Bang Theory. Thank you, Sheldon

A statement is either true or untrue. There is no middle ground between true and untrue. But you're not dealing with a "statement" here. You're dealing with "states."
A good example would be with time. I think we can all agree that a second is a finite, definable unit of time. However, depending on location and surrounding "environmental" variables, a second at point A and a second at point B are not necessarily the same duration, even though they're each a second.
This was demonstrated with the development of GPS, which requires very accurate time keeping. When it was first developed, it was found that GPS had problems with points on the earth moving around. It came from the fact that time "runs differently" on earth than it does in orbiting satellites, proving Einstein's theory.
