Doctor says man was disturbed psychologically
A passenger tried to open the door of a plane flying at 38,000 feet during a Munich-Vancouver flight to smoke a cigarette.
According to a report in Emarat Al Youm, pilot diverted the flight to Hamburg an hour after the takeoff due to the incident.
The plane took off from Munich, Germany, and was bound for Vancouver, Canada, but it had to change its course and landed in Hamburg, Germany, after passenger created panic inside the plane.
According to a statement by German carrier Lufthansa, the passenger was suffering from mental disorders.
Another passenger said the man was acting strangely but the crew decided to continue the flight.
Airport police arrested the reckless passenger when the plane landed and sent him to a psychiatrist, who revealed that the passenger was disturbed mentally and psychologically.
The plane, later, took off from Hamburg Airport and reached Vancouver two hours after the scheduled time.
Terrible thing to wish on those in the landing zone.
As well as being unconscious within seconds due to hypoxia.
Sheesh. Here we have a smoker trying to be considerate and everybody’s complaining. Buncha dang grouches is what I think.
Maybe, in addition to establishing the smoking area as 20 feet outside they could also put the muslim prayer room there as well. It could be marketed as an amenity (and heck, their carpets fly anyway, don’t they?)
Better one splattered body than a planeful. Bits and pieces probably unless its a windshield problem for anorher plane. Ick.
The higher pressure is inside the fuselage, but the doors are designed as plugs so that the pressure holds them closed. The clever mechanism that permits them to be pushed through the opening to get the door out of the way, yet function as a plug when closed, makes it deceiving. Notice that when they open the door on an airliner, it first must be pulled in before it can be pushed out.
What an idiot.
Everyone knows you’re just supposed to crack a window.
The Hulk would just open a window if he wanted to smoke anyway.
;)
Good point. Reminds me of a video I saw yesterday taken by a passenger in Europe who was upset because the "window" and window frame came off in his hands. All he really had was the cosmetic piece of plexiglass that is between you and the real, multi-layer window (that was still perfectly fine), but it still freaked him out. Most people again don't realize that virtually everything you see in an aircraft cabin is cosmetic and not part of the aircraft's structure.
Was his name Abdul?
I was once explaining to a woman how the Air Traffic Control system works and was shocked when I realized what a revelation this was to her. Prior to that discussion, she had thought that pilots just decided where to fly, wild-west style, and that it was just by sheer luck that they got to their destination without hitting anyone else. Why would anyone who believed that EVER step foot inside an aircraft?
I wonder if the mental illness he is suffering from is called Islam.
Chances are he would have gone way beyond the limit required to be legal.
No doubt a third world mussie
In my 1 ton I call those vent windows “the air conditioners” makes my kids laugh.
Math time. Door 50" wide x 75" tall= 3750 square inches. Extremely low side of the differential pressure would be at least 8 psi. 30,000 pounds.
Something close to that.
600 mph, the air is -60* and the wings are really smooth.
You’re dead of exposure and oxygen deprivation LONG before you hit the ground.
