Baylor University has dismissed Art Briles as its football coach, sources told ESPN.
The school will formally make the announcement Thursday.
Players were notified of the news via a text message from Briles, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

Hiding behind confidentiality is when you say you can’t discuss what you’re doing about the situation because it’s confidential but you’re not actually doing anything about the situation.
And maybe Baylor will return to what they should be. A place where Christian values are emphasized.
Apparently the football program did more to cover up the problem rather than doing the appropriate things to address the problem.
I seem to remember there have been something like 12 alleged sexual assaults in the past year or two. If that’s the case then obviously nothing was being done about it.
But, I also know you had better not go to the press and start naming names. First of all, name a thug and be accused of racism. Second, naming the girl is illegal.
But, obviously the investigation by the outside law firm found some bad stuff. And all of it can’t be lies.
You can bet some very rich donors didn’t appreciate seeing Baylor’s name get dragged through the mud.
Ooops, my bad!
“Football” does not have the same amount of syllables, so I am just going to double down and ignore your hate fact.
Was the “trail of rapes” accurate?
I hate having to amend haikus. I screw them up every day in some way.
Another Sandusky?
You can’t name names, but you can also be telling the truth when you say this is an ongoing investigation and you can’t discuss the details. All appearances are that when officials at Baylor said “we can’t discuss the details of an ongoing investigation due to privacy concerns” what they meant was “I’ve got a tee time can we wrap this up”.
No. Sexual assaults on women by male athletes. Recruiting athletes dropped from other programs for behavior issues. Maybe systematic cover up of offenses by athletes.
You make a great point.
So, a haiku:
Ignore obvious:
The savages get a pass
Winning: everything
Obviously, the didn’t do something right. But I want to know why these women didn’t go to the cops? And if they did, what can Baylor do if the cops aren’t doing anything?
But the big question: Why hasn’t the AD been held accountable?
And the birthplace of Dr Pepper..............YUCK
I’m still scratching my head as to why Baylor thought Ken Starr was the best man to run the University?
This also might be the final straw that breaks the Big 12.
My wife is going to request a refund for our Bear Club fee.
Baylor’s program is now over. EVERY recruit will now go to other schools. In fact, every recruiter will be on the phone all day long today.
I do want to hear Briles’ side of the story. Maybe he’ll say “The lawyers told me if I kicked that black kid off the team I’d be called a racist. I reported it to my superiors and was told they’d handle it. The police told me to keep my mouth shut.” Now that he’s been fired he can start talking. He might as well. His coaching career is over forever.
Baylor and TCU were the only two schools in the Big 12 that could win. And TCU has it’s problems, too.
People who’ve just been through traumatic situations don’t necessarily behave rationally. Especially rape victims, there’s a lot of personal shame and guilt that tends to hit them. It’s why so many don’t report it at all, or do it much later, or report it to strange people like football coaches. Baylor can do a lot if the cops aren’t doing anything. For one thing they can push the girl to report it to the cops, they can do their own investigation and revoke scholarships, they can figure out what they’re doing wrong in recruiting. Basically they can understand that a bunch of parents trusted them with their kids and they’re failing that trust and fix it.
AD is on probation. More might happen. A lot of times these things revolve around what landed on whose desk and what they did with it. Could be nobody told him and the worst he did was hire the wrong coach, or he passed everything on to his hire ups and just failed to follow through.
Oh I can see some school, like Arkansas State or North Southwestern Central Louisiana taking him.
Apparently Briles’ son is still on the staff, and Phil Bennett, the defensive coordinator, will be the interim coach (He was a former head coach at SMU).
If I were Oklahoma, I’d seriously consider bolting.
