Trigger Warning: This is a 100% true story. No names have been changed to protect anyone. You may be disturbed. But I will not lie to you.
On April 23, 2016, I declared my independence. The towers of the university where I work reflected the orange glare of L.A.'s sunset. It was Saturday, but I'd driven all the way to campus to do something, I realized, I should have done eight years ago. The office was empty, as one would expect. The security cameras probably captured becoming footage of my lone figure walking down the seventh floor hallway and throwing open the door to my private office.
Then I climbed over the desk and let my arms dangle in the space between the desk and the wall. Each of the connections was there. I unplugged the power, the network cable, the printer cables, the Ethernet, and everything that allowed the world at large to stay connected to the computer in my office. When all the connections were pulled, I lifted the computer up and hid it in a safe place.
The emails and social media of several prior weeks had gradually convinced me. The urban legends about employers spying on employees were not paranoid fantasy. It had become clear to me that someone had been going through the documents on my computer and hacked into my personal email accounts through the desktop at work. Someone must have physically entered my office, having obtained the key from staff, or gotten into the hard drive through the network cables. For years the coincidences had been too numerous and bizarre. For a while, though, I didn't have proof.

I wish him well.
FWIW, I used to teach ethics courses; did it for 25 years. I am no longer hired even as an adjunct, in part because they know my stance on the issues, even though in the classroom I was adamant about presenting all sides equally. As of now, the only courses I teach at the college level are generic music appreciation-based, and I'm waiting for the day that it is no longer a safe space.
At one time I thought myself to be a target because of my views; now I realize that I was getting out while the getting was still good.
The whole rotten, stinking mess of mainstream academia is heading for a collapse, and great will be the fall thereof.
There is a spiritual battle going on here. The proper resolution may BE to shake dust off feet, like Lopez did here, and go on one’s way. Even the compassionate Christ said not to throw pearls before pigs. God doesn’t manifest His best works where they aren’t welcomed.
As for the situation of being in the middle, beware. Sometimes it really is a matter of Error A vs. Error C and so the only sane position is Truth B, which will look to a worldly perspective like the “middle.”
Even music can get politicized. We really can’t escape the battle, and safe spaces that aren’t God are attempts to dodge it that won’t last forever. At some point we have to take that bull by the horns in the name of God.
The prof is Hispanic. The libs felt like he had left the plantation, but since he is a veteran and reservist, it sounds like he was never on it to begin with. Hence the lib’s hysteria. If you’re not white, they feel like they own you.
So far, engineers and other practitioners of hard sciences are pretty much immune, if likely to be bemused by the foolishness that will go on around them.
I am not sure we want that either.
Kind of like the “Latinas for Trump.” Our dear lefties think they must have come from Mars, not Mexico.
Ping.
I looked for the screener or a listing of colleges...Did not find it, can you point me to the place on the website?
Shaking the dust off ones feet. In that context I can understand the Amish.
My daughter was recruited by Harvard, Princeton, Virginia Tech and Naval Academy (she was No.2 in her summer seminar class), but chose Grove City College instead of taking an athletic scholarship. I think she would have fared well at any of the other schools because of her strong Christian faith, but she was determined to go to a small Christian college. I think she ended up with a better education after all, especially when I hear stories of friend’s kids who didn’t get to take any courses in their major until sophmore/junior year.
If we want to concede that the battle for academia is lost and that they have successfully purged all conservative thought from the institutions of higher learning.
Mr. Lopez was targeted by the left primarily because he opposes adoption by homosexuals and the manufacture of children for homosexuals.
You mean if we want to concede that God is the Lord.
Really? Threats and intimidation based on prejudice are a serious issue on college campuses - precisely for this reason.
And yes, in the Lord’s plan there is a time to concede, just like God conceded Sodom and Gomorrah to a dramatic destruction since there wasn’t a basis to expect anything better there.
Nothing is keeping right minded people (whoever they are) from opening new schools. Sometimes old school is wrong school.
