SEATTLE, Wash. The city of Portland began a pilot program Thursday, to buy one-way bus tickets for homeless people who approach agency staff to say that they have family to stay with in another city. The pilot is set to be completed at the end of June.
On Thursday, the city paid for the first two bus tickets, with destinations of Seattle and Spokane.
Susan Salisbury, a spokesperson for Portlands 211 program, which is handling the pilot, said the agency staff members need to call the homeless persons family or friends in that other city, to verify that there is in fact a plan for housing. Without that verification, they will not buy the bus ticket.

Every LIB is insane...each and every one. There are no exceptions. Yes...they are good to ridicule at every opportunity.

Re: San Fran
I would like to see Sheriff Arpaio bus some of the arrestees to sanctuary cities. Give the new dreamers twenty bucks and a sack lunch, drop them off and warn them to stay out of Arizona.
Sounds like the proverbial bad luck/bad choice intertwined. This seems to be a recurrent theme with so many of these people. While they might suffer universal setbacks or tragedies, certain problems they bring on themselves. All of this seems to stem from poor judgment & poor impulse control.
Unfortunately, I have relatives whom I've had to bail out in similar situations. They wreak havoc, then leave it to others to pick up the pieces.
Every august, my lawn becomes completely brown and crispy.
And it is getting unbearably hot in the summer too.
Virtually nobody has AC.
Makes for several sleepless nights.
The other eight months of the year it is cloudy and it mists all the time.
Not too many torrential downpours.
In fact It was only recently that I actually heard thunderstorms here.
Kind of rare.
I'm from the midwest where you have a thunderstorm about every fifth day in the summer.
At least it's not very humid.
Which is nice.
Having been close to some truly homeless before, I'd wager the buses will retain that ripe odor for a long time and regular passengers will not want to be on them.....
Someone explained to me that often Miami gets a bit of rain early each morning (maybe in a particular season) but the rest of the day is great. I guess Portland and Seattle can be seeing the same lack of rain affecting California (the drought).
How mean spirited! These heartless portlanders must hate the homeless. They should be opening their homes to them Where is the love??? Surely they have the room and extra food. But, then, they are politically conservative. What...they are LIBs??? No...that can’t be true.
