Nine in ten Native Americans say they are not offended by the Washington Redskins name, according to a new Washington Post poll that shows how few ordinary Indians have been persuaded by a national movement to change the football teams moniker.
The survey of 504 people across every state and the District reveals that the minds of Native Americans have remained unchanged since a 2004 poll by the Annenberg Public Policy Center found the exact same result. Responses to The Posts questions about the issue were broadly consistent regardless of age, income, education, political party or proximity to reservations. [ ]
The results immediately celebrated by team owner Daniel Snyder and denounced by one prominent Native American leader could make it that much harder for anti-name activists to pressure team officials, who have already used the poll as further justification to retain the moniker.

It is of no consequence.
What matters is that 9 out of 10 LIEBERALS are.
I have more than a few Indian, I mean Native American, friends and they told me the same thing (they call themselves Indians).
This is just a Jesse Jackson/ Al Sharpton style shakedown where they use Democrat applied governmental threats to disrupt a sports teams or companies business and then come up with “compromise” that allows the entity to keep it's name after hiring Obama/Sharpton/whoever affiliated “consultants” and Diversity trainers for sensitivity training and otherwise enriching the people doing the shakedown
And the 10th one was Elizabeth Warren.
Interesting. That’s exactly what I read once... that they laugh at the term “Native American” and refer to themselves as American Indian.
The only time they call themselves “Native Americasn” is when conversing with the media or government officials.
The 1-in-10 who are offended are city Indians.
I suspect a majority of Americans living in this country more than four or five generations have traces of Indian DNA.
Princess Spreading Bull (Commie-MA) says, “Ugh!”
My maternal grandfather was 1/4 Cherokee, bur I’m not claiming any special status such as have fake Indians Lie-a-watha (Elizabeth Warren) and Walking Eagle (Ward Churchill).
*Indians call Churchill “Walking Eagle” because he’s so full of s*** he can’t fly. Really.
One word . . . SO?
I’m native....and could care less...about the Washington Redskins. Or the Cleveland Indians..or the Chicago Blackhawks!
The whole point of changing “American Indians” to “Native Americans” was to change the meaning of the word “native.” A native American is anyone who was born here, as was pointed out at the time. No wonder the term has never really caught on: it’s meaningless.
Indians don’t care what you call them, for the most part. They know all the white man’s words are just that. They know who they are and are not interested in the rest of it.
I was sympathetic, but this settles it for me. Can the left stop with this non-issue now so we can concentrate on real problems?
Interesting...and gratifying.Wise people who know there are more important things to worry about than a single word.
However,as a Red Sox fan I must admit that I intensely dislike the Atlanta Braves! ;-)
Yeah.....I'm an old Angels fan.
Sucks to be me....
Well,at least the Angels have won the Series fairly recently. It could be worse...you could be a Cubs fan!
