No difference as far as I know.
Just a guess, but I speculate he means he is trying to update his FR account with a new email address.
Private reply is Freepmail (Private Messaging) (See the email tab at the top of the page). It stays on the FR servers. Also see My Mail on your account page). Email is your email account that they use for password resets, etc. Change it under 'Edit Account'. Make sure you aren't running a scriptblocker

I’ve been here for almost a decade, and I’ve never heard of FR email.
‘Private Reply’ is sometimes referred to as ‘freepmail’.
Ok, I am going to be the idiot who asks, “How the heck did you lose your job at the post office?”
