It wasn't quite the Red Wedding, but Thursday brought viewers news of more than a dozen prime-time shows being axed to make room for new programs next season.
ABC took the sword to seven series (including country music drama "Nashville" and veteran whodunit "Castle") while Fox is sacrificing five freshman shows, including comedies starring aging pretty boys Rob Lowe and John Stamos.
Meanwhile, CBS is deleting "CSI: Cyber" after this, its sophomore season, thus laying to rest the "CSI" dynasty that encompassed four series during a 16-year span.
The official body count as well as new programming blood for the 2016-2017 season will be rolled out next week at the networks' "upfront" sessions for advertisers.
But through a combination of network leaks and networks jumping the gun, a flood of announcements got early exposure Thursday.

Maybe they'll finally explain how Supergirl got her ears pierced. I'll bet they're stick-ons.

Castle is my husband's fav along with Harmon NCIS. I can take or leave either. I am alone in liking Better Call Saul. What we have discovered this year are NETFLIX series a few or so yrs old and are watching at least three series now. For those who are looking for new programs here are three now being carried on Netflix. No profanity, mid serious, and good actors. MONARCH of the Glenn, White Collar, and Psych. We like the series because we can watch two or three in an evening, and alternate among all three. There are others we also liked. We look for the four or five stars to begin and that usually winds up as a good selection.

Will “Houdini & Doyle” (and their gal pal) be returning? Decent steampunk-ish whodunits.

Reminds me of 1968 or 1969, when LAUGH IN had a segment on the future President of the USA, Goldie Hawn, asking NBC to stop the bombing.
Those around at that time should get the meaning. Vietnam bombing, NBC’s dud shows on TV.

The only way it could be surprising and subversive is if it has an undiluted conservative message.Ha, the odds of that ever happening is approximately zero.

Only channels worth watching are TCM, Starz Westerns, and the HD extra channels with good OLD movies that do not insult your intelligence.

Wasn’t there the time back about 1971 that CBS killed off a bunch of shows that had good, respectable ratings for years (Ed Sullivan, Beverly Hillbillies, and others) in order to attract the younger generation? Apparently that effort was an epic fail. Does anyone here remember that (as I was in diapers at the time)?

I remember it! They killed off the Red Skelton Show, one of the funniest on tv, and many other shows. CBS wanted to attract the “younger generation” with spending money.
