If you've felt your blood pressure rise after seeing passengers being served champagne on the tarmac while you're fighting for overhead space in coach, you are not alone.
A new study finds that class division in the skies can have a real and occasionally dangerous effect on passengers in both sections of a plane.
And when economy-class passengers are forced to pass through the luxurious first-class area on their way to the cramped economy seats, the rate of air rage incidents is more than seven times higher than if there were no first-class seats at all. Researchers report that the simple presence of a first-class cabin on an airplane is correlated with a nearly fourfold increase in the chance of an air rage incident in economy class.

Bernie’s gonna fix this. The seating is rigged! It’s like that Seinfeld episode where Elaine freaks out in coach while Jerry is in first. Cabin rage is real!
Yeah, so life is not perfect. And someone who cannot afford to fly at all is ticked at those who are privileged to ride in coach. I shake my fist at every plane I see going overhead. (sarc)
It would have never, in a million years, occurred to me to care about what was going on up in first class.
To resolve the issue, Coach or economy class should now be referred to as “Second Class”. That should help!
These are “Bernie Babies” in action.
Doesnt bother me one bit. I just think about how much they had to pay for those seats and how much less mine cost, yet we still get to the same destination at the same time.
Fly Animal Farm Airlines!
If someone in economy class is enraged by seeing people in first class, show them the price of a ticket for first class. That should calm them down.
This is just another excuse for people to blame others for their inability to control themselves.
First class boards first so that they can be seen sitting there with their cocktails in real glass and cloth napkins on their laps.
Plus, ‘those people’ don’t want to spend any more time than necessary milling about with the huddled masses.
Eventually coach passengers will be placed in containers and loaded into the cargo hold, so it won’t be a problem.
“As one who has flown both coach and first-class it has puzzled me why they don’t board first-class LAST.”
Mainly perception. It’s human nature to like being “first”
Also the first class seats on the plane are usually more comfortable than the terminal waiting area.
As an aside, it is a glaring security hole that first class passengers get real metal knives and glass cups.
Why have terrorists not synthesized that fact into their overall tactical planning?
Seems like a no brainer.
I'll gladly pay the extra for first class when I'm flying on vacation because there is nothing that kills that relaxed vacation feeling faster than a couple of hours in coach.
I wonder about that boarding procedure, too.
When I fly first class I would prefer not to have to have the coach passengers giving me dirty looks. Let them enter from the rear of the plane.
When I fly coach I would prefer not to interrupt the first class passengers by moving through their space
