If you've felt your blood pressure rise after seeing passengers being served champagne on the tarmac while you're fighting for overhead space in coach, you are not alone.
A new study finds that class division in the skies can have a real and occasionally dangerous effect on passengers in both sections of a plane.
And when economy-class passengers are forced to pass through the luxurious first-class area on their way to the cramped economy seats, the rate of air rage incidents is more than seven times higher than if there were no first-class seats at all. Researchers report that the simple presence of a first-class cabin on an airplane is correlated with a nearly fourfold increase in the chance of an air rage incident in economy class.

Actually first class passengers get there a few seconds earlier.

Seriously, first class on most US domestic flights in not luxurious. Well, if you compare it to economy it is.
In a couple weeks I am flying first class to the UK on British airways, 1st class. Not impressive compared to Asian carriers, but still very nice:
The only time I care about first class is on the rare occasions when I get to sit there.
“.. we still get to the same destination at the same time.”
I had a VERY wealthy friend who refused to fly first class for that exact reasoning.
I’ve flown both, and of COURSE, 1st class is more comfortable, with wider seats and legroom and better service, but you PAY for that. It’s no different than choosing to dine at The French Laundry vs McDonalds.
Dude.
That is NOT a lifeboat.
**I’ll gladly pay the extra for first class when I’m flying on vacation**
I’m flying Mrs Gamecock to Hawaii in first, for our 29th anniversary.
Cost?
160,000 frequent flyer miles and $40.
I fly first all the time and always cash in miles
Flying First Class is a natural RIGHT!
Cute.
I’ll be sure to tap a few first class customers with my carryon next time I board past them.
It does not cost more to go first class, it just takes longer to pay for it! Keep that in mind.....
Priceless!!
I suppose if it was a long flight Id think about the upgrade. But a couple or 3 hours isnt that big of a deal to me.
The overhead bin space would be taken up.
The airlines do not want to fight passengers to put stuff where it should be put - most have rules against their flight attendants doing that. If the coach class passengers are wandering through the first class cabin and the bins are empty, while the coach bins are mostly closed - then they will stow their luggage in first class.
Nice. Business Class on Singapore Air or most carriers for that matter is the best, IMHO. If someone wants me to go more than 4-5 hours distant they’re going to pay for it, or I stay home. Coach class flying is no better than riding the Gray dog.
Yeah, the resentment is Marxist envy. It’s my choice to fly and how much I want to spend for our annual 22 hour flight. What I can afford is no fault of the passengers in business or first class. They either have earned, inherited or have a nice employer.
The airlines must make money. I may not like how they reduce costs and save space but whatever discomfort is usually because of angry and thoughtless fellow passengers.
And yet the back wheels touch down first. ;-P
Compared to the cattle-car coach class on BA (we just flew to Heathrow a month ago) 1st class WILL be a huge upgrade.
Goodness, the seat (with video!) in from of me was less than a foot away. 9 hours of cramped quarters... and I'm a fairly short guy. Horribly uncomfortable seats. Yeah, coach really sucked.
Anything over 3 hours and I seriously consider 1st class. Especially on AA.
