Oh come now!

I’m sure it is on the cutting edge of Nork technology!

“a modified version of a Yugoslavian sub design from the mid-1970s.”

Given that the Yugoslavian made great shower heads, what could possibly go wrong?

Bet the Yugoslav design was based on a first generation Russian design. Easily see the Korean crew, bald and sterile after a few months aboard that floating Chernobyl.

This from a country that has more than once sent out fishing boats who’s crews starve to death rather than return to port with less than their quota.

They probably have to get their submariners on there at the point of a gun.

Is that why they found all those dead soldiers dressed as fishermen floating on boats in the sea of Japan? Wow.

Do the screen doors on the hatches give it away?

U.S. Navy should get within range on the open seas and tell them they have 30 seconds to decide whether to surrender and defect or take a one-way trip to Davey Jones’ Locker. My guess is that they’ll choose to surrender.

They figure its cheaper to replace crewmen than to pay for a reliable sub.

No need for a gun pointed at them, they just tell them there is FOOD on board.

Given that they'd be signing the death sentences for their families - probably not.
The wickedness of governments is proportional to the control they place over its citizens - and by that standard, the NORK Government is the wickedest of them all (although I'm sure our Government salivates in envy).

There's a guy named Sutton who follows things like this. He has a whole page on his website on the Sinpo. It contradicts a lot of what the Daily Beast says, except for it being really, really dangerous. He was posting pictures of it last year.

The first hint was the screen door in the conning tower. The second was that the plastic they used in the hull dissolved in seawater. And finally, they built their armaments from plans they stole from the Kursk.
