PIKE COUNTY, Ohio Investigators are remaining tight-lipped about whether theres a connection between the massacre of eight Pike County family members Friday and three marijuana "grow operations" found near their homes.
Ohio Attorney General announced over the weekend that investigators found sophisticated marijuana grow sites spread across three of the four locations where eight members of the family were found shot to death execution-style....
Were these executions motivated or enabled by the drug trade?...
Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader told reporters Sunday that he knew the Rhoden family well -- bust did not know they were involved in any illegal activity.
Local court records did not show any criminal history for the Rhoden family. But DeWine said the sites and number of plants investigators found indicated a professional operation was underway.
They werent doing this in their garden, he said. They were doing this to sell.
This case isn't the first time authorities in Pike County have discovered marijuana grow sites. And it's not the first time deputies in this small county have talked about drug cartels.
In the summer of 2012, DeWine said agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Pike County Sheriffs Office discovered a large grow site containing more than 1,200 plants near Hickson Road, along with two nearby campsites they believed had been abandoned by Mexican nationals.
Agents discovered the grow and camping sites as part of a two-day drug eradication effort, DeWine said.
Fridays killings in Pike County which Reader described as targeted at the Rhoden family came at a time when law enforcement agencies at nearly every level said they are seeing an increase in violent crime surrounding the drug trade, as cartels move farther into the country from the borders...

Ohio needs to celebrate and embrace Diversity.....
Another “DUH” moment for DeWine and Kasich.
Mixed up with Mexican drug thugs and it went wrong is my guess.
Probably. Four local thugs put a bullet in a kids head last month nearby over a $10,000 pot buy.
As more and more parts of the US legalize this stuff, the level of violence in the business increases.
Not supposed to work that way, huh?
I don't know if "mixed up" is the right expression. I don't think they knew what they were in for. I think it's spiders and flies.
Don’t know if true or not, but on the day this was reported, people that claimed to live in the area said this family was well-known for meth and weed.
A few years ago, law enforcement didnt see (drug violence) as a problem for somewhere other than the border, Rockingham County (North Carolina) Sheriff Sam Page told Fox News Latino in 2014. What happens at the border doesnt stay at the border. It makes its way to my county pretty soon.
Well doesn’t that say it all!
That's because the government controlled price is set too high. At, say $400 per ounce of medical MJ, there's a lot to be had in the black market. At $20 a lid of ditch-weed, not so much.
In other words, a legalized commodity with an absurdly high price (for taxes) invites a profitable black market. It happened with moonshine, too.
They cant see black on white hate crimes everyone else does.
They actually do they just get in front of cameras and blafantly lie to us they are unsure.
Well, actually, yes it is. If the repeal of a prohibition is piecemeal, then the criminals naturally fight even harder for their slice of the shrinking pie.
Hint: One of the Boston Marathon bombers was implicated in a horrific triple murder where he slashed the victims throats then sprinkled a pound or two of pot over the bodies. He was a big time dealer, and so were his victims. Big time.
Our elected officials are selling us the rope to hang ourselves with. People in this community should be storming the county building with bats, tire irons, and lead pipes. The killers had to have been illegal Mexicans or some other Hispanic group.
also hearing that there was some threat to him on facebook, but can't confirm it....
And the murders were probably done with guns sold to the cartel by Obama/Holder.
I would not be shocked if they know more than they are letting on. Eight dead, at least 4 crime scenes so far, one would think there is some evidence. I am surprised the FBI was not called in, until I saw the victims were white.
Marijuana is illegal in Ohio.
Where was Gov. Kasich during all this? Isn’t public safety and anti-drug stuff part of his job?
“And the Ohio attorney generals office said that animals and structures on the property indicate that roosters were being bred there for cockfighting.”

Speculation gleaned from aerial photos was correct.
Nothing about dogfighting yet, though.
