Daniel Torres was an undocumented immigrant when he used a false US birth certificate to join the marine corps. After serving in Iraq, he was found out and discharged. Eventually he returned to Tijuana, where he was born, though he said he was always homesick for the country he had fought for.

I would like to see the future of Mr Torres JD, and the name calling turd from harvard soon to be lawyer.
On one hand I think that offering citizenship to those who have served honorably is a worthwhile endeavor. On the other hand, this could lead to a military made up almost exclusively of foreign fighters and this is very dangerous.
It is already available. The issue with this Marine was that he falsified his history.
And now he’s going to become a lawyer specifically to help other illegal aliens through the system even if they broke the law.
We don't need to recruit illegal aliens to serve. Service is a privilege and an honor. We are now downsizing the military forcing tens of thousands of servicemen out. We have plenty of Americans and legal immigrants who can serve.
There is a program to expedite citizenship for legal immigrants who serve. This I can support.
Anybody know what the hell “law” he’s talking about? There isn’t any “law” in this country anymore. If there was, he wouldn’t have been here in the first place.
Things would be a lot better if only veterans were allowed full citizenship or voting rights.
Agree however it appears that it may be the plan.
I wonder if had access to classified material and other NOFORN material.
As much as I have sympathy for his individual case, I don't think he should have been given citizenship and allowed back into the US. It sets a bad precedent.
The French Foreign Legion offers citizenship.
Appears to work out?
And the Hessian thing, didn’t work so well for GB.
But they made fine citizens in the new country.
It is unknown how my Great ^6 grandfather and his brother went from Scotland to fighting for Gen Cornwallis, but thank God they made the trip!
Legend has it that as Cornwallis sailed off he shouted for the guys to write if they found work or they would send for them! Seeing as his fleet had some maintenance issues.
HEAR,HEAR!
Well the current POTUS has a counterfeit birth certificate, forged selective service registration and has multiple social security numbers that were never issues to him and few, especially Congress seem to care about that.....
As the military slashes personnel under obama - there is no need for illegals to take the place of a US citizens
Greetings from another former Red Diamond (Black Diamond?)
B- 1- 11 1/5th!
Sadly the ‘Rule of Law’ is not what it used to be.
DITTO....those that serve, except mussies, have proven their metal.
But, he served, as a United States Marine, in combat, and very well, too.
I lean towards forgiveness and acceptance.
Well done, Marine.
I doubt he would have had access to any information requiring a security clearance because the background check for such a clearance would have uncovered his false identity.
Two questions:
- If we declare War on Mexico (and we should), whose side would this guy have been on?
- If he was told to fire on Americans, would he have hesitated?
He must have had a security clearance. The background check he received to enter the USMC did not discover the bogus BC.
Torres had just returned from Iraq and was training to deploy to Afghanistan when he lost his wallet. In the middle of trying to replace his identification cards, the military found out about the false birth certificate. Authorities didnt press charges and he was honorably discharged thanks to his reputation and record in the marine corps.
Why he was given an HD is beyond me. He essentially lied on his employment form, which is a felony.
At first, Torres, then 25, stayed in the US, trying to make a living. But he was still undocumented and his options were limited. He couldnt work or pay for college, so he decided to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Why was he allowed to stay in the country? He should have been turned over to ICE for deportation.
In Cruz world this guy is eligible to hold the office of president.
