What's the status of Donald Trump's campaign promises?
CBS News ^ | April 22, 2016, | REENA FLORES

Posted on 04/22/2016 8:30:37 AM PDT by Kegger

Like anyone who has ever decided to run for president, Donald Trump is a man who makes promises. Some are bold and stunning: he'll build a 50-foot high wall along the United States' southern border -- and he'll get Mexico to pay for it! If he wins the presidency, in his first term, he'll knock out Obamacare, Common Core, the Environmental Protection Agency, and defund Planned Parenthood! He'll even force cookie company Nabisco to make its Oreos in America again!

It's hard to predict whether he will be able to deliver on those pledges after the election. But it might be instructive to look at the promises he's made that are purely operative during the campaign cycle. He has discarded some, deferred others, and kept only parts of others. Here are just a few of them:

uhh sure, pal

Candidate private citizen Trump has the legal standing to be starting the wall and have the plans drawn by the government, hearings scheduled and easements proposed as and he has asked Congress to make plans to tax money being sent to Mexico to pay for it. I think this is why he took off a few days from 10,000 person campaign rallies 2 a day across the country, as an unelected candidate with no legal standing to enact govt projects, to start on the wall

Now, senator Cruz also promised to build a wall since 2012. How much work has his subcommittee started and what stage are they in drawing up plans and proposals?

I have no need to diminish Trump, I don’t care!, The rabid Trump supporters have told me that Trump doesn’t need my vote, he can win without people like me, simply because I don’t show the proper adulation, hmm sound familiar? So I have capitulated to their viewpoint, Trump doesn’t need me so I will sit out his dance. Congrats Trumpsters, you win, any discourse that does not show proper adulation is to be ridiculed and attacked and the poster marginalized,so I have decided to sit out. BUT, I will still call out bunck when I see it, thank you very much.

Then why doesn’t he SAY so? I’d jump on the Trump train in a NY second uf I was assured the Wall was real and underway, not just crowdbait as he himself calls it.

“CRUZ CAUGHT ON CAMERA BRIBING A DELEGATE”

Every time I look at the supposed evidence of Cruz wrong doing, I find it is a big nothing burger. I have wasted so much time following these endless accusations to nowhere. Claims of affairs, claims of things he said but didn’t really, and claims of bribery now.

If you guys put half the effort into stopping LIBERALS like Obama and Hillary, who really have committed crimes, this nation would not being going to hell in a hand basket.

You are grasping at straws to assemble your blood-soaked straw man. But there just aren’t enough straws to go around.

If you don’t focus on a positive pro-Trump message, you are going to keep falling short.

Your whole campaign has been about nothing but trying to make Cruz look bad and stop him from winning. Off message. Losing strategy.

Trump would already have the nomination if it weren’t for your stupid strategy. But you still don’t get it.

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/pay-for-the-wall

He’s got a pretty specific timetable posted here about getting the funds to get started

But first, he has to get elected

Expect more position papers next week as he is going to deliver major policy speeches on the military and foreign affairs

“So what’s the folded bills Cruz hands over for?”

You tell me. Nothing about when or where this video was taken. No information on who the person was who received the supposed payment. Nothing. Zero. Zilch.

Why was every other face out of frame?

Why is it cut so short? What happens before and after this shot?

Where is the audio of Cruz’s voice? Did Cruz say, “Hold the mayo on my burger”?

We have a Constitutional right to the presumption of innocence. This is an accusation of a crime.

But what is even more ridiculous is how implausible the claim is. You want everyone to just simply believe that a Harvard graduate lawyer who has practiced before the Supreme Court was committing a crime out in the open, surrounded by a crowd, including people who could record this on video?

You made an accusation, provided a link, and it has no substance to support the accusation. And of course, you and all the others posting lies about Cruz will just repeat it anyway along with some more new lies because you think this somehow helps Trump. But it doesn’t.

It’s pure insanity.

Romney spent the 2012 primary campaign season trashing Republicans. He spent the 2012 general campaign season treating 0b0la with kid gloves.

Trump has spent most (it’s not over) of the 2016 primary campaign season trashing Republicans.

I made no accusations. That’s happening only in your imagination. I posted a tweet with a video.

Now you want to backpedal and claim you “made no accusations”. And that it is only in my imagination.

So you posted it because you are really a Cruz supporter who wanted to expose the phony accusation someone else posted? Yet you offered no commentary, no explanation, no relevant information. Just an accusation. Now you want to pretend you are not accusing him of this. Got it.

That is a question. It’s an accusation in your mind only. Don’t get it twisTED.

To be fair the GOP did more than it's share of Trashing Trump. No leading primary challenger since Reagan has received such a hostile response from the party bosses.

“Trump has spent most (it’s not over) of the 2016 primary campaign season trashing Republicans.”

Well, in his defense, so have I for much longer. But Trump also saved his most venomous attacks for the most conservative candidate, because it was apparent that Cruz was his biggest obstacle to the nomination.

If Trump’s supporters demanded and expected more from him, he would have solidified his conservative positions and won over more Cruz supporters. Instead Trump and his supporters seem determined to alienate the most essential voting constituency the Republicans have.

Conservatives are angry because of being taken for granted by the GOPe and Rinos for years and years. And apparently Trump and his supporters think this is a winning formula for Trump.

Worked so well for McCain and Romney.

How about running on a solidly conservative platform. And make a case for conservatism. It works when people actually try it.

It ain’t over yet.

I understand the sentiment of some who think it is time to rally around the front runner.

But he has to do his part if he expects conservatives to rally behind him. Just being NOT Hillary is not good enough.

I think Cruz should stay in and keep challenging Trump until the convention because Trump obviously will not stick to conservative principles out of ideology or because his supporters demand it of him.

He and his supporters need to understand, without a commitment to conservatism, he might as well not waste his time. He will not have enough support to win.

How about running on a solidly conservative platform.

That would require actually believing a solidly conservative platform.

“That is a question. It’s an accusation in your mind only.”

But “CRUZ CAUGHT ON CAMERA BRIBING A DELEGATE” is NOT an accusation?

That is what you posted. And you want to pretend you didn’t.

You didn’t clarify that someone else made this accusation, or put it in quotes, or otherwise indicate it was a headline, and not your own sentiment. You own it.

You could have captioned it, “Cruz too busy to order lunch, gets staff to take care of it for him.” But then it would not be relevant to your objective of trashing Cruz using lies, now, would it?

You are passing along a frivolous, unsubstantiated allegation of a crime.

And when you get called on it, you just lie and pretend it did not happen.

But EVERYONE can see it for themselves. Maybe you should click the “report abuse” button on yourself and ask the admin to delete it, so you can hide the evidence.
