Read the book. As a former Rocket Scientist, I can tell you the book is pretty accurate, but the movie was a movie. It was a good read. I read a lot of sci-fi and "The Martian" was certainly one of the better hard-science sci-fi books. Good dialog, which was tricky because thru most of the novel the main character is talking with himself!

I read the book first and was pretty disappointed in the move. The book was very funny the movie was not. I still can't believe they got the explosion wrong and thought no one would care.
I waited the whole move to hear “duct tape is magic and should be worshipped”. Never did. Best line in the whole book.

I was generally unimpressed with the film adaptation. Especially the ending.
