Read the book. As a former Rocket Scientist, I can tell you the book is pretty accurate, but the movie was a movie.
I read the book first and was pretty disappointed in the move. The book was very funny the movie was not. I still can't believe they got the explosion wrong and thought no one would care.
I waited the whole move to hear “duct tape is magic and should be worshipped”. Never did. Best line in the whole book.

You would have to turn it into a two or three year tv series to do the book justice.

I read the book first and was pretty disappointed in the move In fairness, they always have to cut out the majority of a book to make it into a movie. The Martian audio book was over 10 and 1/2 hours long.
I would much rather see The Martian as a 12 hour series on Netflix or Amazon, but I don't see it happening.
