There are only two choices remaining for how the GOP Nomination process goes.
It's hard to handicap who walks out of Cleveland with the crown if we go in with Trump short of 1237 delegates.
What we do know is that the party is being extra-crafty to put party loyalists into as many of those delegate slots as possible. Some of those faux-Trump delegates may well support Cruz, but it's more likely that many are Romney era or even older GOP establishment types.
Do you know your county GOP chair? Those are the type of people who will be deciding the nominee in an open convention.
I think Cruz's chances of winning the nomination on a second or subsequent ballot are pretty poor. He's not loved by the GOP establishment, in fact some say he's liked less than Trump. Having pulled off a great political coup, with the open convention, you can be sure that the powers that be will not settle for Cruz.
This will be the golden opportunity to seat someone they really like.
My guess is Paul Ryan is that guy.
My serious question to Cruz supporters (and Kasich too if there are any here) is: do you prefer having the GOP Establishment pick the nominee to Trump?
And, secondly, if you will stipulate for the sake of discussion that Cruz is unlikely to be the guy, who do you want the GOP Establishment to choose?
Cruz supporters are certainly voting for a Canadian.... or a Cuban.... Certainly not for a natural born citizen.
But hey, he’s our guy so screw the founding fathers.... they didnt know crap anyway!
Fair enough. Simple and you can sleep well at night. I'm a lot more flexible and pragmatic, I want to help the better of the available choices win.
Yes, that's true.
So that's Ted 's one plan to win I guess, which is why I say it's "highly unlikely".
Do you think Trump might drop out soon? Do you think Kasich might do better than Ted in states like New York and Pennsylvania if it was Ted vs. John only?
I was polled the other day. I still have a landline. I was asked to rate candidates as favorable or unfavorable. I got talking to the pollster. I’m not alone.
I’ve been reported to the moderators because there’s a candidate I will not vote for. You get to guess which one.
Good luck
OK. So will you vote for Hillary in Hillary vs. Trump? Or just protest by not voting or throwing vote away on 3rd party?
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure you'll show up to vote for the GOP-e approved candidate whether it be Romney, Ryan or Bush. Cruz will too. I won't.
No I’m serious. If my only choices are the GOPe or Trump. I’ll stay home. Not sure how many more times I can say it.
You can do better than that. I'm voting straight rat if the GOPe picks the candidate.
Again, I credit him with being smart but his ego is huge, and he's not a person who is very good at diplomacy, compromise or, apparently, losing gracefully.
He may hate Trump more than he loves America.
He may be so deep inside his bubble that he isn't thinking clearly.
Historically "good sportsmanship" in campaign contests includes gracefully admitting you have no path to the nomination and letting the party come together.
It's part of his character weakness that he can't seem to do that. Instead he's going to keep everything going and may ultimately divide the party and guarantee Hillary's election.
At least you admit you’re voting straight Democrat. I’ll just stay home.
“Cruz is merely the GOPes weapon of convenience against Trump.”
True enough and you can take that to the bank.
I will take it a step further. A vote for Cruz is a vote for Hillary.
, not the quote at the top, which isn't yours.
Sorry for the misattribution. Editing mistake.
“Trump Supporters are voting for Hillary to be elected president.”
That’s a ridiculous assertion which isn’t even close to being within the bounds of reality.
There’s absolutely no enthusiasm in this country for a Hillary Clinton presidency. None. Meanwhile, Trump attracts tens of thousands of supporters to his rallies, and routinely drives the daily narrative surrounding the race.
Simple observation alone should inform even the most casual watcher that, if the general election comes down to a face off between Clinton and Trump, she’s going to be massacred.
“On the one hand you guys try to paint Cruz as carrying the water for the GOPe. On the other hand, Cruz cant win because the establish hates his guts.”
If you’ve followed Cruz with an unbiased eye, it’s plain as day that he’s a water boy for the establishment. Lofty words are one thing, but deeds are quite another. It’s his deeds that tell the truth of who and what he really is.
The reason Ted Cruz has failed to capture the lead in this race, is because most right leaning voters have graded him on his actions, and have found him to be wanting. It has nothing to do with whether or not the old bulls in the establishment “hate” him. The fact is, they’ve gathered to his side because, ultimately, he believes what they believe, and can be trusted to forward their globalist agenda.
But you’ll do your best to block the majority from voting for their candidate?
A majority isn’t voting for any candidate. So try again.
OK, plurality
